Kristin Wiig to retire Gilly and Penelope characters on "Saturday Night Live."

Entertainment Weekly has reported that Kristin Wiig will retire her Penelope and Gilly characters on "Saturday Night Live." I actually think it's funny when she plays those characters. My favorite Penelope moment was during the Taylor Swift episode. Are you all glad to see her retire these characters or will you miss them?

All SNL characters have a shelf life. Gilly has never been funny to me, and Penelope was only funny once or twice. I did like the Target lady and her Garland is funny.

I think it's odd that this deserves an anouncement.

Gilly (and most of Kristin Wiig's other characters) were just built around the annoyance factor. They are almost all the same architype and thus, all her "characters" really seem the same to me. To put her in the same sentence as Dana Carvey and Mike Meyers, who truly found different characters (and caricatures of real life people) is just plain wrong.

The only thing that I really enjoyed was her Kathy Lee Gifford, and the only time when the whole annoyance thing makes sense.

I did find the Penelope character amusing, but only sometimes.

Her characters all seem to have the same voice, same expressions, and mannerisms, just different wigs. I do enjoy her, but she is highly overrated. The only character I really enjoyed was Suze Orman.

I'm honestly thrilled to hear that GIlly is gone! It's just painful to sit through. It's even painful to look at the screen while fast-forwarding through the skit. I never understood the appeal of the skit. I completely agree that basically all of Kristin Wiig's characters are the same, and this one is the most annoying.
