I find it sweet but kind of bland, in a Beyoncé way. Oh, well.
Into The Blue
It's really growing on me (that said I admit I have a huge Kylie bias--if this was someone else I'm not sure how much of a chance I'd give it to grow on me.) Still, compared to other lead singles, I am underwhelmed, but at least the worry many had of her going all R&B with her new label seems unfounded.
I like it.
Two Hearts was a lead single, right? That wasn't particularly representative of X, so...
This song is so good that I'm pretty sure it will cure cancer.
Okay, yeah, the opening yodels are so a product of her RocNationization and a blatant attempt to make an "American radio pop song" and the verses are a bit flat and dull. But once that wall-of-sound bridge kicks in and that gorgeous chorus takes off, I think it's pretty sublime. It's clearly aimed at US radio and yet, to my ears, stays very true to her Kylie-essence.
I hope this means we'll get another Kylie tour in the US in the next two years. If that happens, we should note that Kylie Minogue never toured the US before President Obama took office and this would mark her third tour since he took office. Clearly, the greatest civil rights achievement of his presidency.
2 Hearts was X's lead single--and yeah didn't really represent the album whatsoever (I liked X--mostly a lot--but some fans did complain that it had too many different styles, and, of course, the horror that she didn't sing about her cancer. Sigh.)
I think it's pretty certain Kylie would do a smaller N American tour once again--by all accounts the last two, particularly Aprhodite, (which I caught in California--something ten years ago I never thought would happen) were successes and she thought of it positively, the only barrier being of course that she can still sell much larger venues nearly everywhere else in the world.
Horse, I think that's a fair point that it has a bit more of an American radio sound (though I still am not expecting much play) but is true to the Kylie sound (of course in the past 5 years American radio has a lot more of a Euro influence than it has in a long time, anyway.)
Eric, it would be nice if we get another tour here, but I'm not sure we can really speak to the success of her two American tours. I recall that when she was being interviewed about the first tour she quite candidly said she'd been advised that mounting a tour of that scale in the US (without being able to play the same size venues she plays in Europe) was basically setting fire to her wallet. That was first tour was obviously a passion project, but the Aphrodite tour was no less spectacular. I have to imagine that Kylie and her team see US touring as an investment; a way to build her brand/presence in the US more than as a way to turn a huge profit. I suppose working with Rocnation makes a US tour a lot more likely, though.
Here's hoping! Her two Hollywood Bowl shows were just so much fun. The sets, lighting, dancers, costumes were all spectacular, but at the end of the day, the best part was her. For such a diminimutive woman, she has such a large, electrifying stage presence, but always seems to have a healthy sense of humor about herself and about how wonderfully camp her shows are.
Good points. I got the impression that the first smaller tour (which was kinda a "best of" of past tours) did lose money--which they expected, but Aphrodite (which of course didn't have the water element of the stadium legs of the tour but was otherwise basically the same) didn't. But I have no real source for that... I do think the Rocnation connection makes it more likely.
And absolutely agreed--by far the most all out fun pop tours I've seen. I know some fans are tired of William Baker's over the top camp designs (I'm not) but, as you say, somehow they still never overwhelm her own presence.
I like Baker, but sometimes I think he could use a bit more edge. BTW, there's a much better quality version of the leak on Out.com than on the OP's link.

The only real issue I have with Baker is that for a while he was doing EVERYTHING Kylie. Those books, most of the photo shoots, etc, etc. Of course then they were meant to part, and that never happened (I think due to the cancer...) But I usually like his work on the tours (of course Rent Re-Mixed showed that he shouldn't think that means he's a legit theatre director...)
I don't even what to know what "Rent Re-Mixed" is.
Too bad! :P It was a London revival of Rent (maybe 5 years back?) that got lots of hype before being staged, but must have disappeared very quickly. Baker directed, and Steve Anderson (who has worked with Kylie forever and usually does the new mixes for her concert) did the new "updated" music mixes. That should tell you all but I believe when ti was on I found some clips on youtube...
Well, that sounds ghastly. But, I'm not terribly impartial, I think everything about Rent is ghastly to begin with. (Sidebar: Marnie forcing Hannah to sing 'Take Me or Leave Me' this past week? Cringe-worthy)
Back to Kylie. Let's take a trip down memory lane to a decade ago when Kylie sang "Slow" at the EMAs. So sultry it's ridiculous.
Kylie - 'Slow' - EMAs - 2003
It's growing on me.
As someone who has never seen Kylie live, I would be so excited for a tour. From what I understand, Aphrodite was her biggest selling album in the States. As there was no hit single here, one can only deduce that it sold well based in large part of the U.S. tour.
Like the song.
Rent Remixed was the worst yet funniest thing I have ever seen in the theatre.
It's growing on me too. When is the album actually released?
Seeing as we're posting random Kylie videos, here's my current favorite, from a while back.
Kylie and Justin Timberlake sing Blondie
I believe sometime in mid-March. And it's grown on me as well. (She also, apparently, has a duet on Enrique's new album. Hrmm...)
Was Aprhodite her best selling album in the US? I always assumed it must be Fever due to Outa My Head, but that would be interesting. Borstal, you must try to see her live (one bonus about the smaller N AMerican dates, aside from being much more intimate--I managed to squeeze to the front for the last one--is they also aren't outtrageously expensive like other similarly lavish pop tours.)
The chorus has an almost ABBA-esque gallop to it.
It was probably Fever, but Aphrodite did scads better in U.S. sales than X, which is remarkable as, I said, Aphrodite didn't have a hit single here.
Suddenly struck by the memory of actively voting for "Can't Get You Outta My Head" and "Love at First Sight" on TRL with Carson Daly. Ah, youth...
I hear a bit of ABBA too.
Ha! I actually paid money I couldn't afford to see Kylie play The Jingle Ball in Seattle around Fever--for THREE songs (Head, Love and I forgot the other--it was probably her jazzy Locomotion.) I knew she was only doing three songs, and had no desire to see the other acts, but I just thought it would be my only chance to see her anywhere near by.
That's dedication, Eric. I remember she played a couple of those bad pop radio "festival" or holiday shows in the US at the height of her Fever popularity. From doing a couple of songs at a crap radio holiday show to headlining the Hollywood Bowl twice, our little Aussie's come so far.
Yeah, I can kinda get the ABBA vibe, too. But just ever so slightly. And not in the way Goldfrapp got ABBA-fied on 'Head First'.
JAY LERNER - Z: Uhhh. I don't know what to make of that JT/Kylie clip. He looks so white trashy there, she looks like she's 20 years late for her Winter Formal dance at the gym and neither of them does terribly well with Blondie's material. But, I'm glad you've found something you like.
Kylie's done a few random TV concert duets. She was on a Ricky Martin special (dueting on Vida Loca) and in December she was with Rod Stewart (?!) doing a duet of Sleigh Bells (or whatever that standard is called...)
And yes, those holiday radio sponsored special concerts *are* awful.
I actually get a more 80s Giorgio Moroder vibe from that Goldfrapp album than ABBA, but I'll have to listen with late ABBA in mind next time :P
Eric, sorry, I was referring to the song "Head First" not the entire album. That's where the ABBA influence is most evident. Although, I will say you hear traces of ABBA's final "darker" album throughout that Goldfrapp record.

HorseTears, I don't disagree with you. It's fun, though.

I like the album cover.
When you posted about how to post a picture, somehow I knew this would be it, so I held off,not wanting to steal your thunder. Love it, but not keen on the name (which would have worked better 15 years back, or as a song title, IMHO.)
