The song has completely won me over. The video? Not so much, but she of course looks fantastic.

You know, rewatching it, I don't hate it as much. It's by no means Dawn Shadforth's best work and I think someone like Sophie Muller would have done a much better job with this concept, but it has its charms. Especially if you ignore the fact that it has absolutely nothing to do with the song -- and in fact contradicts the themes of the song and that it's riddled with cliched representations of capital "L" love. But, hey, Kylie looks lovely and mature and that is some hot Gaelic D she's rolling around with -- French actor Clement Sibony.

What a difference a day (and 10 or 11 viewings) make. I actually kinda sorta really dig this video now. And I love that Kylie isn't going down Madge's embarrassing desperate youth-chasing route. She's a grown woman and she's not afraid to show it.

There isn't really a linear story there, is there? I think it would have been a lot stronger if a few of the "down/relationship stress" moments had been a little less subtle shall we say. This quote from the director clears it up a bit, though:

'Into the Blue' sees the return of the magnificent collaboration between Kylie and director Dawn Shadforth. Stylish, sophisticated and intimate, the promo shows the pop star alongside French actor Clement Sibony.

Dawn Shadforth, director:

"I had wanted to do something different with Kylie for ages, less about dancing and performance, more about acting and emotion. I wrote the treatment for Into The Blue this way and Kylie really responded to it.

The idea for the video was to connect with the emotion in the song with a fragmented narrative that played on the lyrics in an ambiguous way. So we created this little story of a glimpse into the world of a man and woman, a lost weekend, scenes from a film where the context is not quite clear.

I wanted to show a bit of soul, a relationship that felt authentic, natural and intimate and a side to Kylie people were not so familiar with. I had been inspired stylistically by some early John Cassavetes films and wanted to make something with an improvisational style, a fluid camera, and with quite a pure and simple theme about love. We were lucky to cast the fantastic French actor Clement Sibony and they got on like a house on fire, which made things really easy when it came to improvising."

So, apparently Kylie played a "secret" mini gig upstairs in some London pub yesterday. She performed a couple of songs including "Can't Get You Out..", "Into the Blue" and another new song from upcoming album called "Les Sex".

I can't wait to hear the fully produced studio version of this song. Sounds like it could be a total banger. I also can't wait for Kylie to burn the wig she wore last night. She looks like a time traveling call girl from 1993. But I guess it's okay for a gig in the upstairs room at some random pub.

There's also apparently a duet with Enrique Iglesias on her new album. Just pondering that makes me throw up in my mouth a little, but perhaps it won't be as awful as every single thing he has ever done in his life.

So she just tweeted that the Enrique duet, "Beautiful", is premiering on Graham Norton's radio show tomorrow morning so I guess it is happening after all.
