Kyra Sedgwick in The Closer

Welcome to a pretty pointless thread. :)

Anyone ever catch this show? I had the TV on TNT (Law & Order)and the remote is across the room. I am too tired to get up to get it at the moment. Why do they give such praise to Kyra? Her accent is ABSOLUTELY horrible. It goes in and out. Some of it is like a completely untrained person trying to make fun of a southern person's way of speaking. A woman no longer living in an area with such a rural dialect would lose some of that awful drawl. Trust me, I would know. 9 months out and I sound like a Yankee. Anyone else annoyed or have an opinion on this?

Two things:

1: I recall an interview James Woods did on the tonight show about how he prepared for his southern accent for his role in Ghosts of Mississippi. He said he would get very upset at people who would come to him and speak in their own version of a southern accent, when he had meticulously studied Byron De La Beckwith's accent down to the regional dialect. He's such a freak! A brilliant freak.

2: I have yet to see THe Closer but Kyra won my heart when she played Gena Rowlands' daughter in Something To Talk About.

I couldn't agree more. Her accent is awful. I'd much rather an actor forgo the accent all together if they can't do it right. I have a Boston accent and I swear I almost walked out of A Perfect Storm 3 times whern I heard Diane Lane say "But Bhuuuooobby."

and Moxie have you seen Gloria with Sharon Stone? Her Newyok accent was Oscar worthy.

She was also Travolta's chick in "Phenomenon". ( I think that was the title) She grows on you in an intriguing sort of way. She's one of the few actresses from this decade that I can stand to watch more than a few times in one of the few regular TV programs I do watch.

Oh, I have adored Kyra in other things. I thought she stole Something To Talk About right out from under Julia. This show just annoys the hell out of me. (I left and then came back in. Not intentionally punishing myself.)

I personally like her, the show and her in the show. IMO, Her Emmy nomination is well deserved. Last week's episode was one of the best that I've seen of this show.
