The most surreal special since The Pee-Wee's Playhouse Christmas one. Highlights: Gaga's dueling piano duet on Artpop with Elton John and the ecstatic version of Gypsy with Kermit. Also during the favorite holiday memories section, Dr. Teeth and The Mayhem couldn't remember anything.
I loved it. WOW. Kinky on parade, Gaga, Elton and Rupaul, Streisand on PBS tonight, Live Sound Of Music next week. ...DOOMSDAY FOR THE RIGHT WING AND RELIGIOUS NAZIS. Haters going to hate.

I don't think we will be seeing 'The Muppets' and Gaga on TV again anytime soon. The show was a big disappointment in ratings. Maybe ABC should have aired 'The Muppet Chritmas Carol' instead.
Lady Gaga Muppet special a ratings turkey
That is a shame. I thought it was very good and a nice throwback to the old muppet specials.

This thread is about the special that was created and aired last night. It is not about whether or not there will be another one, do you know what I'm saying? I'm interested in discussing what I saw, not in how many people didn't see it or whether or not there will be a sequel.
I was entranced . I loved the duet with Elton and was entranced by their conversation especially her glasses. They promoted Rupaul at the end of the intro segment and then once after the Joseph Gordon number. Everyone else got more.

Musto read all sorts of subtext into the Benny and the Jets duet and wrote that she refused to smile during the number but I feel like I did see her smile during it.
I don't remember her not smiling. But in any event I thought the number was joyful. You have a link to the Musto?
I had to turn it off when I saw that RuPaul was going to be wearing The Cookie Monsters pelt for a dress.
I did laugh out loud at the audition where the rabbit was eaten.
The rabbit being eaten was genius.

Rabbit: "I did not agree to this."
This was from my, I mean, Musto's Facebook page, and I definitely think there's too much read into Piggy's number:
I enjoyed the Lady Gaga/Muppets special last night and was especially fascinated by her duet with Elton John. I'm not sure if this was filmed before he started their feud or not, but there was definite tension in the air. They sang "Benny and the Jets" from adjacent pianos, and Elton kept changing it to "Gaga and the Jets," but she resolutely wouldn't laugh. Elton would also interject purrings of "I love you Gaga," but she remained stonefaced and wouldn't respond. Like I said, fascinating.
Also of note: RuPaul was fab in her duet with Gaga, but Joseph Gordon Levitt can't sing very well, so his "Baby it's Cold Outside" with Gaga was chilly indeed.
Also, "Santa Baby" is a classic song once recorded by Madonna. Well, guess who sang it in the Gaga special? Miss Piggy in a blonde wig! Am I reading too much into this?

I think that was Piggy's real hair and not a wig.
Statler: There's nothing like a classic holiday song.
Waldorf: And that was nothing like a classic holiday song.
Give me this Muppet Special any day!
Finally got around to watching it. Who cares about ratings, it was a highly enjoyable special, and the Muppets were a perfect addition to her aesthetic.
Loved the opening with "Venus", but I agree that the duets with Kermit and Sir Elton were just lovely to watch.
Is it just me or did they air it kind of late?

It was a big grown-up, I think.

i thought it was a lot of fun and also thought of the PeeWee christmas special while watching it.
It was the gayest holiday special since.
I am not fond of any of Gaga's stuff as of late- but this was good.
also- nothing does very well on thanksgiving night on television except football.
This was a tough sell to begin with.
why was Gaga so cold and stone faced for most of it?
she appeared a little under the influence... or just not knowing where to look.

It didn't even cone close to the depths plumbed by U2's 1997 special, "A Year in Pop TV" or the "Rosie Live" variety show from November 2008. Not even close.

People really need to learn scope when describing things. Just like Namo said, Rosie Live happened.
Why wasn't there ONE skit with them together (and choosing a number for a bored looking Gaga doesn't count)?
I enjoyed it for the most part but it seemed like more endless promotion for ARTPOP than anything else. It's odd to me that she didn't do any songs from her other albums. Doing "Applause" twice (which is to me the worst song on the album) was a bit much. At least she could have done "Christmas Tree." Seems like a missed opportunity to not do "Swine" with Miss Piggy.
Obviously the highlight of the evening was the duet with Rupaul. The Gaultier was an interesting choice for Gaga to wear. I cannot STAND her septum piercing though.
I was kind of expecting more jazzy and acoustic songs but overall I LOVED it! Gypsy was flawless and so were all of her fabulous outfits. I feel like RuPaul could've chosen a better wig though.
(Yes, I'm back...)
