A couple of friends and I have been in LOVE with this song since we first heard it. We have laughed about buying the soundtrack for our kids and blasting it while alone in the car. Then we realized the reason it struck a chord was because we are all three gay.
Personally, I came out to my mom at 18. She told me I wasn't and sent me to therapy. For years, this was the routine. She flipped out if she thought someone knew. My dad just didn't want to hear about it. As I got older, I just never shared my personal life with them. It took meeting my wife to "Let It Go." Now everyone knows and I have never been happier.
Anyone else feel the same about the song?
Let It Go
It's very drag queeny that clip! But yes its Disney's first lesbian love story.
Well, if she had a love, I suppose.
JerseyGirl2, I just had this idea as well during this past week while listening to the song for the 1500th time. I think the lyrics definitely could be construed as a coming out song. It sounds cheesy, but I thought it might be powerful if someone like Jennifer Hudson or Menzel sang it at a Marriage Equality rally of some sort.
The song is meant to appeal to anyone who is dealing the issue of suppression, discrimination, just feeling unsure of themselves etc. I think it's fine and understandable for the LGBT community to embrace the song, just so as long as we don't get territorial with it. This feeling of needing to let go of something destructive in our lives is a universal human feeling. Coming out and/or dismissing criticism for being gay certainly falls into that spectrum, but if you ask around you'll find that we gays are not alone in this emotional experience.
btw, not accusing you of implying anything other than what you said, JerseyGirl2, I just felt the need to speak up, as I have seen a handful of homosexuals already who have decided to mark their territory and blast people who try to say it's anything other then a direct parallel of our experiences.
Personally, I see more of my parallels in The Little Mermaid, but that's just me.

My wife feels that way about Reflection from Mulan.

Watched Frozen last night knowing about the conversations eluding to this possibly being a lesbian story.
I didn't "see" it.
I was looking for it and even trying to "stretch it" to see it happen.
I still don't see it.
I'm gay and not opposed to it.
Appeared nothing more than sisterly love.
Who in the world is saying that Frozen is a lesbian story?
That's how I interpreted it too, BroadwayBenny. Anyway, the the song hit a strong point for me because I am so shy and don't like to let a lot of people in anymore because of how many times I've been hurt in the past. I also easily get anxiety attacks and those are embarrassing. So, I want to just be normal and let these feelings go, but it feels impossible most of the time. And that's what is so great about music. You can interpret it however you want and it.
That's the beauty of the arts...it's left up to the individuals interpretation.
Now whoever said that FROZEN is a lesbian story should be slapped...hard!!!
You didn't get the incestuous lesbian love story in this? It's so obvious!!!! I mean "Let It Go" has the same amount of syllables as "labia" which makes you think of a vagina which is what both of these sisters have so it's clear as day that Disney wants you to get that they're in lesbian love with each other.
I wasn't suggesting for a second that the song was LITERALLY about coming out, just that it could feel like a bit of a personal anthem, in that way. I am sure there are 100 different situations in which it would be appropriate.
And NO, there is no lesbian undertone in the film. That's moronic.
Have you heard the song they cut from the finale, "Scissoring In The Snow"? It's so beautiful.

It reminded me too much of "Whistle While You Munch."
That was a fun little song, it's a shame it doesn't get more attention for it's historical significance of being the first song ever written for a cartoon about cunnilingus.
I actually think "For the First Time in Forever" is more of a coming out song. It's about opening doors (maybe of a closet) and meeting the One. It even includes the line "why have a ballroom with no balls."
Elsa is the part of her that doesn't want to come out and would rather have a life lived without anyone knowing. Gay!
And no straight person would own 8000 salad plates...
SO many Disney songs are really about being gay and things so not appropriate for kids.
"Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" - Really about society's judgements
"A Whole New World" - Really about middle eastern homosexuality and dreaming of munching carpet
"Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" - Really about longing to come out and be accepted
"I'm Late" - Really about unexpected pregnancy
"You Can Fly! You Can Fly! You Can Fly!" - Really about little boys breaking free and coming out
"Part of Your World" - Really about longing to be accepted for being a homo
"Colors of the Wind" - Really about being an Indian American Homo Lady
"When She Loved Me" - Really about being an old homo lady
"Be Our Guest" - Really about old men accepting a new twink into the gay world before pouncing on him.

I agree that it is moronic JerseyGirl.
Google "Frozen, Lesbian" and there are many websites, blogs, etc that brought it up.
Isn't Chim Chiminey about douching?
"A broom for the shaft and a brush for the flue"
And Mary Poppins wasn't fooling anyone with her love for that carpet bag.
