Sorry. I jacked my own thread.
eh, there was a time when $39.95 to the right church official would get you a brand new soul, a get out of hell free card and all the altar boys you could bugger.
What does that say for infallibility, huh?
goes back to my initial argument.
i means seriously. it's like joining the klan and saying, but i love the white sheets. it's like joining hamas and saying, i know, i know the jews, but look at the healthcare i get! it's like joining nambla and saying - oh wait, pretty much the same thing.
But it what the various popes have believed changes from pope to pope, why shouldn't free-thinking Catholics think for themselves?
Maybe the next pope will agree with them. Or the last one.
Obviously the popes of the 100th and 11th century believed that two men could be joined in an Office of Same-Sex Union.
Weren't those popes infallible too?
No, actually. Papal infallibility didn't become dogma until 1870.

When you're in hell for a sin that is no longer a sin do you get to go to heaven?
heh, if it's not really a sin, phyllis you're not really in hell. you're just pointing and laughing at a lot of people who didn't do it and always wanted to who feel real stupid.

I wish I'd known that before the church royally effed up my psyche.
Does this guy still deny the holocaust? Or did he make a full confession and do penance? If the pop asbolved him and told him "Go, and deny no more!" I don't know how anyone could challenge that.
No, he did not, but today the Vatican called for him to "recant" his Holocaust-denying views.
They also said the pope "knew nothing" about Bishop Williamson's views.
Given the pope's early years in the Hitler Youth, it's odd for him to be doing a Sergeant Schultz from Hogan's Heroes saying "I know nosssink!"
Of course he knew about Williamson's views! They were hardly secret.

So the long arm of the Jews strikes again. Isn't it funny how the people who preach tolerance the most are so intolerant of other views themselves?

When does the Catholic church preach tolerance at all?
Yeah, I wasn't sure who you were talking about, Phyl.

See, the whole problem with this whole protest against the Pope kind of boils down to one little thing:
Popes aren't generally known for giving a damn what anybody thinks. They're the goddamn Pope. Who the hell are you to tell them what to do?

i cannot see how benedict can withstand this outpouring. oh wait, yeah i can. he's the pope.
Andrew Sullivan--a devout Catholic--has two fascinating items on his blog today about the pope, Father Maciel and the Holocaust-denier Williamson.
