re: Live Earth Concerts

Yes, I admit she was off key. I'm giving her a pass because-well, because she's Madonna.

re: Live Earth Concerts

I finally saw the first song in her set, the new one specifically for this show, "Hey You." And to be fair, she was on key 99.99% of it. Someday she'll be able to do two out of four songs that way.

She DEFINITELY had the best shoes of the entire event.

re: Live Earth Concerts

She constantly sings off key, but the last two concerts at the Garden, she sounded fantastic the nights I saw her. Rarely if ever off key.

::cue Pro Tools joke::

But they could have used Pro Tools at other performances. She's not consistent and she doesn't know how to use the voice she HAS.

But overall what a great line up Live Earth was. Some really good music today.

re: Live Earth Concerts

I don't care if she sings off key at times or not. I am just grateful her Evita training improved her voice SO MUCH. To the point where can actually be taken seriously as a singer. And she really showed that with RAY OF LIGHT.

Now I feel like listening to that album, damn.

re: Live Earth Concerts

I just got home from the New York (well, New Jersey) show and WOW! what a day. We got there at around 1-1:30 but the show didn't actually start until like 2:15. It was hard to pay attention to some of the acts as most people were walking in and out during the whole show and if you didn't know the song being played, then basically, you would probably be staring into space (and at the many planes with signs flying around, like "Don't Trust Gore" or "Draft Gore"). At around the time John Mayer started performing, most people actually showed up (the beginning acts planned to a very empty stadium) and it was easier to pay attention to the acts. Dave Matthews Band probably got the first booming welcome from the audience and Bon Jovi absolutely brought the house down. Kelly Clarkson sounded much better live than everyone is making her sound (watch her on the Early Show on Monday morning as I was at that taping and she sounded great). While The Smashing Pumpkins, Roger Waters (was Pink Floyd there? because they didn't even announce him coming on. He just started singing out of the blue), and the Police were the "main events" of the night, they were all pretty boring, or maybe I was just exhausted from the day. Alicia Keys was great and it was nice to see her in the beginning with Keith Urban. Melissa Etheridge's performance was unusual. She basically tied many songs together (I think they were different songs) with a small speech between each song while the music continued. It was interesting but I wish she sang some of her more well known songs.

Sorry that this was all smushed into one paragraph but I am SO tired right now and need to get to bed.

i was at the concert too! Overall it was great... but Melissa Etheridge was frightening, she had this crazy batsh*t look in her eyes, and just kept preaching and preaching and preaching. Bon Jovi was amazing, and so was DMB. I'm also a huge Kanye fan and I thought he was great as well...

Anyone know of a DVD of Madonna's set? I guess I didn't want to sit through the entire show just for her.

re: Live Earth Concerts

I saw most of the concert. Really liked Keane, even though I'd never heard them before. I agree with the above comment about Melissa Etheridge. Kelly Clarkson was okay. Madonna was...interesting. Bon Jovi: awesome! Who was the first act to come on in Giants stadium? I had never seen them (him?) before.

It was interesting how on Bravo they put New York for the venue, and many of the artists kept saying New Jersey. They should have put New Jersey, or at least "New York/New Jersey". Bon Jovi in particular did everything to make sure that everyone new they were in New Jersey.

Kenna was the first act. I'd never heard of him either, he's been flying below the radar for quite a while, according to Wikipedia. I liked him a lot, too.

I've previously actively disliked Keane, but really enjoyed their performance. Hell, even KT Tunstall managed the unmanageable and made me a fan.

Kelly Clarkson simply does not have "it." She may have had "it" in the science lab controlled environment of American Idol, and obviously she has vocal chops and a great song Avril Lavigne gave her, but that's not enough to command a real stage in the real world. "I think it's really cool the way they decorated the stage. It's like used tires they got somewhere. I'm gonna steal the idea for my show. Hee hee." She was completely unengaging and almost completely disappeared on that stage.

Yeah, come to think of it, she's one musician who I'm perfectly happy to listen to without watching. Most of the time, I think something's missing if I can't see and hear a musician I like at the same time.

On iTunes you can pre-order an album of the Live Earth performances, due out in August.
