Sounds like I should slow down on the Italian BMTs and molten chocolate cakes!
I was at lunch with a friend today, and in the middle of telling a story, I just lost my train of thought. I tried to continue the story a few seconds later, but I couldn't. I stopped and told my friend that I was feeling a little light headed and, for some reason, I couldn't think of the end of the story. I had just eaten--and I drink more than enough water. I tried to finished the story again, but couldn't. I talked about something else for a few minutes (telling her my family's medical history of seizures and stuff--basically saying I hoped I wasn't having one--I've never had one before). A minute or two later, I finally got it together and finished the story, but wasn't feeling quite right for the rest of our meeting and went home soon after to get into bed and slept for a little.
A friend of mine from the boards who I was talking to suggested that perhaps it's low blood sugar that caused this. I need to go to a doctor this week (since I'm leaving next week for college) to see what is going on. Do I need to go to a specific kind of doctor to get tested for this?
I was reading the symptoms and I have noticed a few of them in myself. Feeling sluggish (very much so, lately), irritability (a little), and anxiety are a few that I've noticed.

I have hypoglycemia and usually I get symptoms like that before I eat anything. Luckily, it doesn't happen to me a lot. I've almost fainted a couple of times - I actually almost did last year at Broadway Barks (after I had eaten a little something and drank water)!
Is this a regular occurance? Maybe even if you just ate and drank water, your body was still dehydrated or lacked some vitamin to keep your body feeling healthy. I wouldn't be too freaked out about it unless this is something that happens very often.

Posted: 8/12/08 at 5:58pmI just went to get a physical today and told them what happened... they didn't say anything after my check up. I'm supposed to go back in 2 days though so they can finish looking at something (gave me a shot in my forearm). I don't know if there was anything else they needed to look at. How do they test you for high/low blood sugar? Urine sample or blood?

Posted: 8/12/08 at 6:11pmBlood sugar is tested with a blood sample. It can either be obtained by getting a sample from a vein or with a fingerstick and using a portable glucometer. The test on your forearm was probably a test for TB which is checked in 2 days.

Posted: 8/13/08 at 2:44pmAs a diabetic, I sometimes will have low blood sugar. I always have my glucometer handy to check it. I usually get dizzy , have a rapid heart beat and cold sweating. Sometimes there is confusion. This occurs when I haven't eaten or have excersised too much without a snack. Again your doctor is the best person to talk to.
