Lady Gaga was great and all, but nobody comes close to Madonna.
Eat it, Gaga.
Someone's pissed. Awwwww...you mad?!!!
This performance was laughable then and it still holds up because it's laughable now....and Lord knows I needed a good laugh to start off my day. So thank you JungleRed for the laugh!
"Eat it, Gaga?" Yeah, right! Uh-uh, suuuure!

I'm not a big fan of this music genre. Madonna is pretty decent. But, I would confidently give the edge to Lady Gaga when it comes to talent. But, Madonna certainly made a huge impact during her career.

Madonna's shaky and tinny Marilyn impression over Gaga's powerful and fully connected alto? No.
I knew that someone would dredge up this...um...performance.
Madonna's a pop culture ICON but never the best singer, dancer, or actor in the biznezz. A huge part of her appeal to me is the fact that she's made the most of meager talents. Madge is a master of the BIZZ in showbizz. She was also the beneficiary of good timing. She reined over music video when it still a nascent art form. Kiddies today have seen it all and in some cases done it all by the time a video artist blows up.
I now I'm going to face the firing squad for what I write next. But, if Madge were started out today, she'd be in the fight of her life for a few scraps at the table.
I admire her longevity though and will ride to die w/ her metaphorically speaking because...
Madonna is only known and remembered now because of what she's done in the past, certainly not for anything she has done recently...
I gave up on Gaga when she collobarated wtih R Kelly but that was a fantastic performance at the Oscars.
Weird to compare that performance to Madonna's since that isn't even one of Madonna's best performances. She is so visibly nervous in that clip.
As someone who cant stand Gaga i have to say she sounded great on the Oscars, i also think Madonna knocks it out of the park on the 91 Oscars.

I think you should hear the new album
The performance of "You Must Love Me" was much, much better...

Madonna has made it very clear that she gets nervous performing at awards shows. I heard recently.
Umm...she's talked about that since like...1991.

A lot of Madonna stuff never sinks in for me.

Maddie could have used the autotuning Gaga had.
ETA: I'm not saying Madonna is a better singer. I just don't understand why there's gotta be autotune on everything nowadays, including live singers at the Oscars.

Wasn't there some statement from Madonna that, immediately before she made her entrance, they told her that her microphone wasn't working?

The poor thing. Shaking like a leaf. And she'd be the first to say she was never the greatest singer. But it was more about what she was able to accomplish being in complete control of her own career. Most lucrative tour in the history of humanity. Dance chart #1s. Too busy rehearsing for the tour. Broke ground as one half of the first mother daughter '80s revival Macy's fashion line. She looks GREAT. Most successful chain of third world exercise centers in history.
Also, Sondheim.
The song lends itself to Marilyn, especially with the "Harry Winston/Diamonds are a girl's best friend" line, so I don't understand the critique.
Has anyone tried her "Addicted to Sweat" fitness DVD series?
Sadly, the online reviews of the Hard Candy Fitness Center in Sydney, Australia have not been so flattering.

But they're talking about Hard Candy so she wins all the way to the bank. RebelHeartLivingToLoveTour on track to be the highest grotesquing tour of all time. The follow up to her next album is #1 pre-order on iTunes in 68 principalities.
She's a mogul!
The "Marilyn" observation wasn't a criticism, the comments about her vocal technique were.
Madonna can belt? So why the hell did she half ass Evita? #TeamGaga #TeamBilbo
