Oh dear, it would appear Madonna had a brain fart, a big one. A lot of people are saying she was been sarcastic but it's still a silly comment. Shame after the amount of positive messages she has been sending out in support of him on every date, i guess this will be the one that is remembered.

I don't think she was doing it for attention, the tour is a huge hit in the states, i think she just said something stupid or made a stupid joke.

But yes, at least she looked fabulous when she said it

Meh, this isn't a big deal.

Madonna is under no obligation to be well-informed or intelligent, unlike many of the actual forces-for-evil who are running for public office. She meant no harm, the poor dear.

If Obama's father had been Jewish wouldn't a lot of people be saying he was Jewish? I don't mean to be glib here. I'm just suggesting that the fact that Barack Obama Sr. was raised in a Muslim family and later converted to Christianity still makes him in the minds of many Muslim, and that among those who are bothered by this there is not just a xenophobic religious sensibility but a xenophobic ethnic sensibility. Otherness that is not "remedied" by conversion in the eyes of some people who happen to be White American Christian xenophobes.

Oh brother. I stayed out of this thread so sanddm might perceive how many people in her shrinking demographic, who have seen her shows previously and loved her, are now over her and did not in fact like the show at all.

And of course, people are always praising her for getting people talking which makes her a "smart businesswoman." I assure you, s, nobody outside of her circle of fans and her legions of ex-fans are talking about the tour. Her inflated prices guarantee she's raking in the big bucks, technically a "hit," but the fact that she's touring does not register in this cultural moment in the US *at all*. And now, she's being talked about. Sure, she's being talked about as an idiot, but HEY! She got them talking!!!! That's what matters, right??

If she was half as smart as people think she is, she would know that utterly humorless people like herself can not pull off irony. Ever. But let's give her a pass, okay? Because while she's making money hand over fist testing the patience of her most ardent fans on this leg of her tour, the poor thing hasn't had a holiday this summer.

Yes, that is all they report. Nothing else. They don't have categories of news other than Entertainment and there they only post Madonna articles. Why, if you click on the Entertainment link on their completely empty home page, all you will get is the link to the one Madonna article they recently posted. That's it.

(Sorry, I can't be as idiotically and unintentionally ironic as a relevant pop music legend gay icon diva singer/actor/director who still has it and looks great for her age by all accounts from her spiky album/single/teaser charts and wildly successful tour with practically no promotion at all)

Yeah, I do think it is Madonna's notable irony at work. But I also think that was misguided on her part to say that. When I first heard that Black Muslim comment, I instantly thought of the Nation of Islam that she might been referring to. An organization that's way too obsessed with black masculinity for its own good and upholds very conservative and patriarchal views under a very specific brand of Islam. I thought, "Uh oh..."

Given plenty of Americans' general ignorance regarding Muslims and Islam, not the least of which the lack of knowledge of the faith and the diversity in it, it really shouldn't be surprising why plenty of them like Republicans are distorting it for their own ends while running away with it. Having a Muslim president really should not matter solely on the basis of faith. But many clearly aren't ready for it like with the Catholic Alfred E. Smith as President close to a century ago.

These days, when you attend a Madonna concert, you come to see HER, not necessarily her music. By the way, I miss the sexy, slutty, horny Madonna.

I agree with Matt's last statement--the problem is she acts like she IS well-informed. I think the Muslim thing was a joke--or at least I like to think so, but I dunno....

I see her in Vancouver on Sunday. I hope she makes a lot of statements against Stephen Harper (though, like most people reading this, I have no belief she even knows who he is, or what he means to the "state of Toronto").
