Man Shot to Death Today for Texting Before Movie

WESLEY CHAPEL — A man is dead and a woman is hospitalized after they were shot Monday afternoon over the use of a cell phone during a movie at the Grove 16 theater, the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office reported.

A retired Tampa police officer was charged in the shooting, the sheriff’s office reported.

The husband and wife, Chad and Nicole Oulson, were taken by ambulance to a Tampa area hospital, the sheriff’s office reported. Chad Oulson, 43, died, and Nicole Oulson, 33, was treated for a gunshot wound to the hand, the sheriff’s office said.

The retired police officer, Curtis Reeves, 71, was charged with second-degree homicide.

The Oulsons were sitting in front of Reeves, and one of them was texting on the phone as they awaited a showing of “Lone Survivor” when an altercation started over the cell phone use and then the shooting occurred, the sheriff’s office said.

The guns would be used for all too many reasons: texting, talking, eating, opening wrapped candy, singing along and let's not forget the person who will dehydrate if they don't guzzle a bottle of water in the 45-60 minutes of each act.

Reassuring that the Judge denied bond and he will remain imprisoned until trial. She also stated that there was irrefutable proof the man can be charged with second-degree murder. Don't mess this one up, Florida....

SNAFU, I didn';t read that article but in a press conference yesterday the Sheriff said that based on their investigation there is absolutely no way the Stand Your Ground law will be permitted.

I heard this morning from a reporter that there are rumblings of the defense offering up a temporary insanity plea in the form of "text rage." Don't you just love America?

In the article it said the retired Sheriff felt an unidentified object strike his face and he pulled his gun and fired in self defense.

Correct. It was a bag of popcorn, according to witnesses. Based on that alone, the Police did not feel it warranted a Stand Your Ground defense. So I'm hearing temporary insanity due to "text rage." We'll see how this turns out...

"Rage" seems to be used as a defense in a lot of cases these days. How about instead of killing someone and blaming it on "rage" how about getting yourself to some anger management classes?

Yeah, I get road rage sometimes, but I never actually want to kill people. I just get annoyed at the situation and let it be. I definitely am a little scared that people are so okay with pulling a gun out the moment they really get annoyed or don't get their way.

This is EXACTLY what would happen.

Everyone feels threatened so everyone would say they have the right to protect themselves.
