Makes me very sad. I always enjoyed her work, and I grew up watching her on Bob Newhart. She made millions of people laugh for many decades.

The EW artcle says that Edna Krabappel was her defining role--and who am I to argue with Entertainment Weekly???--but to this day, I think of Edna Krabappel as being played by "Marcia Wallace, from 'The Bob Newhart show'".
Perhaps that bias is simply a symptom of my age, but I've been watching 'The Simpsons' since the beginning, and it never managed to erase my memories of Carol Kester.
Still--what matters is that she gave me years and years of laughter.
RIP.

How sad. A wonderful comedienne.
And Addison, I agree. I've watched The Simpsons from the beginning and I always thought of her as the wisecracking receptionist on Bob Newhart.

Not to mention a kick-ass Match Game panelist.

So incredibly sad.
I have a feeling that whatever Bart writes on the chalkboard in the season premiere is going to make me cry.

If I were writing it, I'd just have Bart standing in front of a blank chalkboard with his head down.

I'm sure her passing makes it difficult for The Simpsons because they had already announced they were going to kill off another character.

how sad... she will be very sorely missed!
also.. as much as I loved her on the Simpsons and grew up on the show... to me she will always be the woman who sold Jan her wig on the Brady Bunch! =)

Rest in Peace, Carol. (Such a wonderful ensemble.)

Remember her from Newhart show as I have never seen an episode of The Simpsons
Newhart may be the only one left from the cast

RIP Marcia Wallace. The world is a smaller and sadder place now.
