I had no idea so many people adored this woman as much as I do. My PM box is filling up with people who love her!

I especially liked her character on ER (Dr. Greene's needy girlfriend, Cynthia, a number of years ago)

She is way hot!

I think she's HOT! She is so beautiful. I am a BIG FAN of Mariska. I was surprised to find out that she's Jayne Mansfield's daughter! I can see the resemblance now in Matt_G's icon. I thought her mother was hilarious in two films: "The Girl Can't Help It" and "Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?" I'm glad her daughter is making her mark.

I would love to hear what she has to say about her mom. Updated On: 9/23/04 at 01:39 PM

I didn't know she was Mansfield's daughter. I usually don't have much use for nepotism.

And her father was champion bodybuilder Mickey Hargitay. There was a TV movie about them with Loni Anderson as Mansfield and Arnold Schwartzenegger as Hargitay.

Hargitay (now in his late 70's)recently appeared on an episode of Law and Order SVU. Now THAT'S nepotism.

agreed.

I think the worst case of nepotism HAS to be Sofia Coppola.

i don't think nepotism is relevant when it comes to Mariska Hargitay, her mom died many years before Mariska made a name for herself as an actress. i think she's made it on her own.

and there's ALOT worse crimes out there than nepotism.

Anyone care to discuss Jane Fonda? Updated On: 9/23/04 at 01:46 PM

That she did. And her father had a VERY small part in that episode. It was over before the opening credits rolled. That episode with Samantha Mathis actually aired on USA last night.

(I'm an SVU junkie if you can't tell already)

There is an A&E Biography about Jayne. I saw it again about a month ago. She loved her kids and made them her #1 priority.

Not really. Sofia Coppola has the talent to back herself up. Are you really telling me if your dad was Francis Ford Coppola, you wouldn't use his connections to get your film financed?

I agree that Jane Fonda is a bad one.

If you really want to laugh, watch Godfather III DVD with the director commentary turned on. Francis actually defends casting Sofia.. TOO funny!

I too adore Mariska. Didn't mean to sound like I didn't.

Another nepotism person I like is Kate Hudson.

Mariska Hargitay...
Everytime I read or say her name, I can't help but feel like I'm drunk and mispronouncing it.

Oh wait, that's cause 99% of the time I am.

Sofia Coppola was at least smart enough to figure out that she should forget acting and concentrate on writing and directing.

Don't forget, she wrote the screenplay for her father's segment of "New York Stories" when she was like 12 years old.

Right. And she was only cast in Godfather III after Winona Ryder pulled out at the last minute with nervous exhaustion. It's not like she whined to her daddy that she wanted to be in one of his movies and he let her or anything. But this is taking the thread off topic and Matt_G is gonna kick my ass.

Sofia not acting... good.

Did you see Vigin Scuicides? Many people loved it. I for one really didn't get it and I usually 'get' intellectual movies like that, but just don't like them most of the time.

Another movie I didn't get was "the Dreamers"

The Virgin Suicides & Lost In Translation are two of my favorite films. The atmosphere Sophia created is, to me, gorgeous and brilliant. I could watch them over and over forever and still find new things in them. Also, if you've read THE VIRGIN SUICIDES, you'll know how much care she put into adapting it.

Right. The Virgin Suicides is a phenomenal book and she adapted it beautifully. I was actually really pleased that it was so good after the maligning she got for being in Godfather III. And Lost In Translation was just glorious. Bring on her next film.

Well, I guess I will give Virgin Scuicides another try. It's been about four years.

I didn't see Lost in Translation because I was still pissed about Virgin Scuicides. Maybe I'll watch translation first.

I will Netflix both and let you know what I think.

Give The Dreamers another shot while you're there. It's my number 2 movie of the year so far. It was number 1 until Bad Education came along.

OK.. seriously.. someone explain the last twenty minutes of "the Dreamers" to me.

When the girl takes the hose from the oven and tries to kill the three of them.. that's when I lost track of what was going on.

The nudity of the film didn't bother me. Hell, I watch porn all the time.

If you haven't seen The Dreamers and you plan to, look away now.

Earlier on she did say if her parents found out, she would kill herself. They found out, so she tried to kill herself and her boys. They have been so caught up in their own world, they have been totally unaware of the situation exploding around them. The rock coming through the window is a wake up call and it's reality crashing in on them. They go out to see what's going on and when Matthew realises that he will never truly have Isabelle, she will never split from Theo, he walks away. The end.

Alright that helps some. Thanks.

One thing I did "appreciate" about is that Isabelle looked like a real woman, not a plastic model.
