No traffic allowed in or out of Boston area.

They're asking Watertown business NOT to open, MIT classes cancelled. This is an unbelievable story. Police claim possible bombs are still in the streets of Watertown - asking people to stay home, not to drive if possible, not to open door to ANYBODY.

Just to clarify, the dead person is one of the two suspects identified by the FBI yesterday.

The MIT shooting and the marathon tragedy are related:

The made-for-movie mayhem began at approximately 10:30 p.m. Thursday when police said the bombing suspects robbed a 7-Eleven store in Cambridge, police said. Minutes later, an MIT campus officer responding to the call was shot and killed. The terror suspects then fled in a stolen Mercedes-Benz, but were quickly spotted in Watertown where they exchanged dozens of rounds of gunfire with patrol officers.

The other one (white hat) is still at large.

oh my god - the one they shot had another bomb strapped to his chest:

I work the lobster shift tonite, so I've been up all nite watching this unfold. Un. Real. Esp. the LIVe reports of the gunfight, the takedown, the car chases, etc. The unedited news was good, except for various media jerks saying just "anything", not knowing what was REALLY going down, minute by minute. It was all connected about 3:30 am. Once they got the 7 - 11 store security pix of suspect no.2, they knew these guys were the marathon bombers. The skyping kid, who lives in an apt. right where the firefight was, was skyping mostly details LIVe all nite to mxnbc. Some other kid? was laying splayed on the ground with rifles at him. Eventually, the cops had him naked, walking cuffed to the police car. He coulda been just a student or nosy bystander.
Now they're evacuating some people OFf Busses.

Be Brave, Boston and esp. Watertownm Newton, Cambridge people, keep SAFE. The suspect on the loose may have ieds or explosives ON HIM.

People keep saying that the suspect at large is incredibly bright. Supposedly pre-med.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

My mom just told me that Weehawken, NJ is on lockdown. That's where my younger brother lives and he told her there are cops, helicopters, and reporters everywhere. Some family of the suspects live in the area.

There are some guests from Boston staying at my hotel who need another night due to canceled flights, but my hotel is completely booked.

I have reservations for a few Bostonians today. One called and said that they were able to get out, but they're arriving late and a second one called and said they wouldn't be able to come until tomorrow.

It's crazy.

One of my coworkers just told me the father has made some sort of threat. That if his younger son dies bad things will follow. I've been watching things as closely as I can from work but missed this. Did anyone else here this?

It was a weird quote being relayed by a local newscaster on 5 or 7 that said if it turns out they killed his old son "all hell will break loose." The father supplied the info that the older brother (black hat) was married and has a three year old daughter. He has also urged white hat to surrender peacefully. So I am hoping the quote was weird.

Oh I am relatively close, as the crow and black hawk helicopters fly. I didn't get a good night's sleep last night, that's for sure. Dame, you get kudos for being the first to mention Chechnya in your theater security thread. Right ahead of the curve.

At one point in the mid-'80s I had an apartment on Norfolk Street in Cambridge, which is where these two bombers apparently lived. The interesting thing about living here is most of us regularly are in all these places throughout a given year. I'm always on Boylston Street where the explosions were. My commuter bicycle route takes me right through last night's early crime scene area. I drop off my bike share directly across from the 7-11 the bomber robbed last night. It is kitty corner on the same block my office has been in the last ten months, just a couple of hundred feet away. The Landmark Cinema in Cambridge is a couple of blocks from where the MIT officer was killed. The staging area that they show in the Watertown mall parking lot (with the hundreds of police vehicles) is where the New Repertory Theatre is, (currently doing Master Class).

The part that has me most disconcerted is that Pete Williams on NBC reporter earlier today that an explosive device was found in the Charlesgate neighborhood in Back Bay/Fenway and a controlled explosion was performed a block from Berklee Colllege of Music. I really don't want to think that there's somebody else besides these two brothers, but where on earth would that have come from?
