McCain said, "I think that people should be able to enter into legal agreements and it's something that we should encourage, particularly in the case of insurance and other areas and decisions that have to be made. I just believe in the unique status of marriage between a man and a woman and I know that we have a respectful disagreement on that issue."
Ellen responded, "I think that it is looked at and some people are saying the same that blacks and women did not have the right to vote. Women just got the right to vote in 1920. Blacks didn’t have the right to vote until 1870 and it just feels like there's this old way of thinking that we are not all the same. We are all the same people. All of us. You are no different than I am. Our love is the same. To me, what it feels like, I will just speak for myself, it feels like when someone says, 'You can still have a contract and you'll still have insurance and you'll get all that' -- it sounds like you can sit there, but you can't sit there. That's what is sounds like to me.”

Seems like he is offering a power of attorney agreement.

I'm OK with women voting, it's driving that worries me.

This shows Republicans will go on liberal shows. So why won't Obama pay a visit to Billy O on Fox?

It's a sad state when the hardest hitting journalism is by Ellen.
Ellen's a talk show that's mostly fluff, O'Reilly is a political talk show. There is a big difference.

"Ellen's a talk show that's mostly fluff,"
No, Martha Stewart is mostly fluff. Ellen is trying to be political by bringing up issues such as gay marriage.
"No, Martha Stewart is mostly fluff. Ellen is trying to be political by bringing up issues such as gay marriage."
So, talking about one's own life is now political? Was it political when Starr Jones droned on and on about her marriage to Big Al? Or is it only political because it's "gay"?
How could anyone think that McCain could go on her show at this point in time and NOT talk about gay marriage?
Guys, don't take Goth's bait. In his world, whether its a television show or a Starbucks pastry, it is labeled "Liberal" or its labeled "Right".

It's political because it is an issue people are voting on. Nobody voted on Starr's wedding.
what's next marriage to box turtles?
Don't be so ridiculous. It's goats. Gay marriage always leads to marriage with goats. Everybody knows that.
How very Edward Albee-esque!
Well, in Massachesetts, hasn't gay marriage led to anarchy and pestilence, and didn't the entire state literally break off the continent and drift into the ocean? Can't we learn our lesson from that?
As a straight guy, I think that the argument in favor of same- sex marriage (SSM) could be framed differently.
Instead of making an analogy between SSM and universal suffrage, I believe a more effective tack would be to tie the present situation to the various states' anti-miscegenation laws which were still in place as recently the late 60s in this nation.
Same-sex coupling is not the only type that our elected officials aimed to stamp out in times past.

Goth--if my partner of 14 years and I decided to have a wedding and invite a lot of people from BroadwayWorld, would you attend?
Or would your religious beliefs keep you from attending?
This would be a wedding--a real wedding, officiated by a member of the clergy, uniting us in the sight of God, not simply a civil ceremony.
Would you attend, if invited?

Actually, no. Yours is not a true wedding no matter what the law says. God is clear in the Bible that marriage is between a man and a woman only.
(Obvious baiting by Goth....YAWN!)

Don't see any mention about man/man or woman/woman. Marriage is a religious sacrament and gay marriage makes a mockery of God.
"Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh." Genesis 2:24
"Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." Matthew 19: 4-6
Nnnup. Still owned.
Yours is not a true wedding no matter what the law says. God is clear in the Bible that marriage is between a man and a woman only.
You mean your God. Theirs would be a true wedding as far as my God is concerned. Why do fundamentalist Christian Americans pretend freedom of religion on longer exists in this country?
