"And how much legislating did Clinton do in eight years?"
Presidents don't legislate. The members of Congress do that.
But back to the topic at hand..."marriage". What exactly is your stand on polygamy? Which is sanctioned in the Bible?
Goth and I find one little bit of common ground.
I despise what happened under the Clinton Administration and have felt utterly betrayed by it. Which is one of the main reasons I didn't support Hillary Clinton in her candidacy.
Other than that, God don't exist...so mock away!
McCain's appearance on her show -- to suck up votes from the coveted Ellen fan base -- reveals once again the way Republicans will exploit those they legislate against as 2nd class citizens.
I've no doubt Ellen's fan base is made up of many McCain's supporters who remain firmly in the camp of "I love Ellen, but I don't believe she should be allowed to be married".
Roscoe - If it weren't for Jesus, then the laws of Leviticus may still be in effect today! Jesus said we should love one another as we love ourselves. I'm a man, so I'm assuming Jesus actually endorses homosexuality. What was it he said about "two men will share one bed"? I believe it's in Luke somewhere.
The bible doesn't mention cell phones either- are they a sin?
No, only Blackberrys. DAMN! I'm still going to Hell!
The three people that watch her show weren't voting for McCain anyway.
LOL You really are out of touch, aren't you? Recently, Ellen's ratings were topping Oprah. But I guess you don't acknowledge anyone watches Oprah, right?
robbiej - I get where you're coming from, but I'm not ready to trust Obama, either.

I've always really liked the story about Lot and his daughters. After naughty nasty old Sodom and Gomorrah are destroyed, Lot and his daughters take refuge in a cave. Lot's daughters get their father drunk, have sex with him, each bearing sons by their own father. There's no judgment on anybody, life goes on and everybody lives happily and holyly ever after.
Fine family values, the Old Testament Way!
Roscoe - My favorite argument as well. Right after pointing out that the fall of Sodom and Gomorrah wasn't caused by homosexuality. Christians have no problem justifying incest, but they abhor the word "homosexual" enough to let gays take the fall for entire civilizations. It's not even a deadly sin. It's not even ranked up there with lying which most Christians do every day when interpreting the Bible.
I look at it this way.
Obama may give me the clap, but it's a risk I'm willing to take to get off.
I've already gotten syphillis from the Clintons. So I deserve it if robbiejr. turns green and drops to the floor.

Those are also the same daughters whose vaginas he offered in exchange for sparing the angels that visited him from being raped.

Another charming little verse:
But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing.
Anyone going to tell Hillary about this one?
There really is some crazy sh*t in that Bible.

I can't even pretend any more to care what that book says about anything. I refuse to discuss it as if it should matter.
Go back to your churches, start paying the taxes you should be paying on them, and leave the rest of us alone.
Roscoe, I wouldn't exactly say everyone goes on to live "happily and holyly ever after."
Lot's son by his eldest daughter, Moab, gave rise to the Moabites, who were clearly ostracized by and at odds with the Jewish people for much of what is the Old Testament.
It's interesting that the Koran omits the story altogether, with most believers considering it an utter fabrication.
And yes Kringas, Lot's offering up of his daughters in place of the angels/men, always bothered me a lot more than what followed.

Hm. "Circumcise the foreskin of your heart." Deuteronomy 10:16.
Sounds like a Jonathan Larson lyric.

Fair enough, but Lot and his daughters are never punished for their transgression, which is a pretty serious one. Did they strike the same bargain with God that Cain struck?
Maybe? I always assumed they were pretty and knew how to bat their eyelashes well. That seems to get one out of almost anything.

If incest was good enough for those kids in Flowers in the Attic, it's good enough for our Lord!
the bottom line on gay marriage is that we live in a country that has a separation of church and state.
And there are absolutely zero reasons for banning gay marriage.
Zero.
Arguing Christianity is always a losing battle. Christians always have an out. As soon as you explain anything logically, they just proclaim the Devil is in you and start shouting prayers or singing hymns all over you so they don't have to listen. It's the Crucible Manuever.
Yes we do, jrb!
We are a secular nation whose system of government is based on a system created polytheistic Sodomites!
Ya want to know what a real American does?
Takes it up the pooper and thanks Zeus!
So Goth, back to the wedding invitation, which you neglected to say if would accept or decline.
My partner and I are devout practitioners of our own religions. An ordained gay minister and an ordained lesbian rabbi are going to co-officiate at our ceremony.
We are calling it a "wedding" as an act of faith, because we believe that we will be married the eyes of a loving God, and we don't require that wedding attendees believe what we believe. All require is that they attend--and that they give us a gift, which could simply be the gift of their attendance.
Would you accept the invitation or decline it?

"Would you accept the invitation or decline it?"
Are you getting married under a chupa? Do you have a ketuba? Are you considering this your personal Yom Kippur and fasting?
