McDonald's has announced it will take on Starbucks head on with Baristas, Espresso bars and premium coffee. I am not a coffee drinker (McDonald's DOES make an EXCELLENT DIET COKE!) so I'm asking you: Will a trip to McDonald's ever replace a trip to Starbucks? If the Latte was as good, but cheaper? If the Cups weren't identifiable as McDonald's?

Not for me - simply because Starbucks is closer to home and to work and I like the coffee. I'm all about convenience even if it costs me more. I could care less what the cup says (my coffee is not a fashion statement - it's just breakfast). It's all about what tastes good and what's convenient.
On the few occasions I've had the opportunity to "enjoy" McDondald's new, reportedly delicious coffee, I did not much care for it.

I love McDonald's Iced Hazelnut coffee. I think Starbucks is turning America into a shopping mall.
I wish every Starbucks would close. They are taking over. There is one on every other Manhattan block. I HATE IT.
I personally like going to little Mom and pop shops over a chain.
I usually buy my morning coffee out of a cart or at my local deli.
NYC has become this:
Starbucks. McDonald's. Duane Reade. CHASE! Do the math.
Charming independent stores can't afford to run in NYC MALL TOWN. It is depressing.

Believe it or not, someone did an independent taste test of all the fast food coffees out there -- McDonald's, Starbucks, Burger King, Dunkin Donuts and a few others-- and McDonald's won.
I personally have never tried it, at least not in several years, so I couldn't say.

I hate to admit it but McDonald's Hazelnut coffee is really good.
It is very caloric as they use hazelnut syrup but man it is tasty. I got a large one and I was wired for days.

Posted: 1/8/08 at 4:41pmI'm sorry, but I love Starbucks. Yeah, it's overpriced and taking over the world. But I love it.

That's because it's made with crack cocaine.
Have another cup!

Starbucks is alright. If I really want coffee and it's the only place nearby I'll go. But if I had the option, I'd got to Peet's Coffee.

Corine:
I don't understand people who do not support the existence and growth of corporations who provide for their employees and their employees' families.
Starbucks provides amazing health insurance plans to part-time employees and 401K to full-time employees. They also treat LGBT employees and their families as complete equals to straight employees and their families.
Aside from the fact that Starbucks coffee is delicious, I am willing to pay a little bit extra to support a corporation that supports the well being of all kinds of people.
So Corine, perhaps you can explain to me why you wish every Starbucks in the city would close, and why you "HATE IT" so.

I'll add to the defense of Starbucks by saying that this is the best job I've ever held as a young college student. They are super flexible with my hours, are providing me with full benefits at part time work, and are giving me customer service skills that will serve me well when I graduate and move into the "real world." My co-workers are my family and my regulars are my friends. I wouldn't trade the work environment there for anything.
As far as the blind taste test, I imagine it would depend on which coffee blend they were using. Some, like Komodo Dragon and Casi Cielo are like a little taste of heaven. Some, like Ethiopia Sidamo and Serena Organic taste like death.

I'm a Starbucks fan. Did I need to say that?
#20re: McDonald's Latte: are you Lovin' It?
Posted: 1/8/08 at 9:30pmI (on the other hand) despise Starbucks coffee. (Although I love their black tea). Their coffee tastes like brewed charcoal to me. If Mac can do it better, I'm all for it.

You don't go to Starbucks for coffee. You go for espresso drinks.
What's a Tasimo? I'm looking it up and not finding anything.

Posted: 1/8/08 at 10:14pmDid anyone happen to see the show "The Most Unique McDonalds" on the Travel Channel tonight? They showed a McDonalds in Montreal that has one of these "McDonalds Cafe"s in them. If the prosposed ones for the US are the same, they actually looked wonderful. In addition to the coffee drinks, they also had the most amazing looking (and probably million calorie) desserts. The set up there was the Cafe on one side, and then the regular McDonalds on the other side with the seating in the middle.
