Oh my GOD bestbars, I want that so BADLY. The only thing better though would be Ray Bolger's costume. I adore his performance and character.

The design on these Winkie costumes is really amazing. I love how the color grey is used so much throughout this movie, in both the sets and the costumes. If you think about it, half of Munchkinland is grey. It makes the colors "pop" so much against it.

Same with the witch's castle and these incredible soldier costumes. The red really pops out.

(even the sadly-faded red here)

This was costume design at its finest.

I love Adrian's costume designs. And I LOVE the only gingham in the film, is on Dorothy. It was Adrian's signature fabric, because he felt it was the most "American" fabric there was.

It's really unfortunate that they didn't even have a costume Oscar back in 1939.

Can you imagine Adrian for "Oz" against Plunkett for GWTW?

I'd still vote for Oz.

But the Academy didn't have the choice. No "Best Costumes" Oscar back then.

Oz was stiffed at the Oscars IMO.

Honestly, it's a better movie that GWTW.

I only have Glinda, The WWOTW, Dorothy, and the WWOTE. I broke my Lenten commitment so I could eat Happy Meals for these. (I do, inded, enjoy McD's from time to time)

HatBoy-
The Daisy Munchkin is NOT part of the Lollipop guild. The Lollipop guild were in Red, Green and Blue, in shorts and Peter Pan collared shirts, with fun hairdos.

The Daisy Munchkin does not exist in the exact format presented by Mme. Alexander, it's kind of a combination of the Hearlders costumes and the Flower Pot Munchkins.

I remember after I saw the Lullaby League, I wanted ballet toe shoes so badly. I think I took ballet for like, a year after that. I am so not a ballerina.

After that I switched to irish step dancing, and oddly enough, this costume reminds me a little bit of some of the dance costumes - just because of the embroidery pattern.

Dorothy's costume was great. I love the fact that they had to line the bottoms of her shoes with felt because they sounded so loud on the yellow brick road

Sorry Husk, I'm not a huge Wizard of Oz follower, I was under the impression that all the Munchkins were in the Lollipop Guild, haha. And I figured the "Daisy" costume didn't follow the exact format, hmm..

I didn't know that misschung.

Those shoes are amazing to see up close. I saw them at the Smithsonian and stood there for about five minutes. I would have stood longer but my family made me leave. :P

It is. They also have Ray Bolger's costume there, but I missed it when I went (BOO!).

I found the link to the Smithsonian website, where they have pictures of both.

The pair in the Smithsonian are mis-matched. If you look at them, one shoe is from a different pair than the other.

All told there are about 6 different known pairs, 4 of which are in circulation...and one of those 4 got stolen last year from the Judy Garland Museum.

Oh they are, I never noticed that.

Didn't the stolens get returned? I remember there being quite a big deal made about it (and there should be).
