Saw this online and it's spot on to me...
“All of us in this room really belong to the most vilified segments in American society right now. Think about it: Hollywood, foreigners and the press,” ~Meryl Streep
One of the most babied people in the entired world (Actors) is complaining about being vilified. You can't make this sh*t up... She f**king sees herself as a victim. A famed Hollywood star is a god victim? Go f**k yourself.."

Which is a joke built off of Hugh Laurie's joke earlier in the night. And Hollywood has been vilified, they often are and you're the one framing them as victims, not them.

"4 pages and not a single comment about her being ignorant and thinking that she and Hollywood is better than the UFC."
Better than the UFC? Don't you know, they're better than everything in existence, including the sun, the moon, and the stars. They're all such paragons of wisdom, culture, and morality, why it's a privilege to be lectured by them. We're lucky they even deign to waste their precious insights on the likes of us. And you have the nerve to complain about them? For shame, you ingrate!
Isn't it about time we discussed Ms Streeps' frock ?

After Eight, you are a poor excuse for a human. The Mary, Mary world you crave to live in is long gone, never to return. You won't be happy until gays go back in the closet, African-Americans stay in the back of the bus, and women stay home barefoot and pregnant.

No! There is no need to trouble your little empty head.
"
Yeh! A response, but only from a 'star' without a sense of humour as we muddle through the rights and wrongs of 'the speech'.
No wonder we LEGENDS are up where we belong.
After Eight has been in the liquor cabinet again. I will never forget when he played Martha in Virginia Wolf at the Beef and Boards Dinner Theatre. Absolutely riveting! And very few people realized the character was a man in drag. Amazing Performance!

Love Meryl to death, but she looked like she'd fallen through a stained glass window. She's one of those people that does not know how to dress herself. Whoopi's another one. They always look like their gowns were made by sofa upholsterers.
I do not know much about MMA but I do know that they have never been accused of being "SOWHITE" And Football is probably 75% Black. Nice of Meryl to look down on them up from her privilege perch.

Ah, let's not put words in Meryl's mouth. She said Hollywood was teeming with "outsiders" and "foreigners" who, if kicked out, would leave us nothing to watch but Football and MMA. Aside from the fact that she was obviously making a joke, I didn't infer a specific racist reference.
But are we not lectured a lot on jokes, words really hurt? whether on purpose or not? To not be so Closed Minded?
"It's not going to be everybody's thing, and the last thing I expect is for an uppity 80-year-old lady to be in our demographic and love mixed martial arts,"
"Of course it's an art," he went on to say. "These fighters, these men and women, are so talented. They train their whole lives to be the best in the world. To say something stupid like that is like saying, 'She's not a talented actress,' which she is. She's a very talented actress."
Streep's jab at football and MMA fans did not sit well with Bellator MMA president Scott Coker either. He defended the sport in a letter to Streep on Twitter.
"I'm a lifelong fan of your work but also a lifelong martial artist who happens to promote mixed martial arts around the world," Coker wrote to Streep.
"The global sport of mixed martial arts celebrates male and female athletes from all around the work who work years tirelessly honing their craft and - yes - art. They come from every country and every walk of life.

Who knew MMA prez Scott Coker would be such a sensitive snowflake? He needs to find his safe space!
Bravo to Meryl Streep for being a true artist and speaking up for what she believes in, in such a classy way. Judging from the comments that I'm seeing from so many people, I guess we now live in a society where you will be personally berated by the President of the United States on Twitter, which is hilariously ridiculous.
Really, Petralicious? I don't for a second believe that you care about MMA or whether it's considered an art or if it's more diverse than Hollywood. Stop trying to look for reasons to complain about Streep's beautiful, heartfelt speech.
And anyway, Streep said nothing about the relative diversity of sports versus Hollywood. It's like someone from Apple making a derogatory joke about broccoli, and you countering it by arguing that broccoli is more biodegradable than an iPhone. It kind of misses the point.
You are right Hork but I think you may have missed it when I said above I did not know alot about MMA.
I was commenting on how its hypocrite to complain about lack of diversity while bashing an indusrry that is very diverse. At the same time many minorities are very fed up her industry is so white. Or maybe this kind of diversity is beneath her. I do not pretrbd to know. Look up #oscarssowhite if you think I am making this up. So your broccoli statement is not fir this.

I can't believe I'm going down this rabbit hole, but here goes. Okay, first of all, MMA is not an industry based on hiring. It can't help but be diverse. Second of all, it's irrelevant. Being diverse doesn't give it a free pass from jokes being made about it. Thirdly, Meryl Streep has nothing to do with the film industry being white. She's not a producer or a casting agent. I feel like you don't understand what hypocrisy is. I'm not saying it was a great joke, but it was harmless and, as far as MMA goes, meaningless.

Moreover, I think it's safe to say that the narrative of Hollywood liberal elitism played at least somewhat of a role in frustrating swaths of the electorate to the point of Hillary losing votes. So why keep doing it instead of just doing your job sans political commentary?"
This is exactly what his troll supporters say. "Shut up and dance, monkey!" They are humans and are allowed to speak their minds.

I despise Donald Trump and his disgusting supporters, and agree completely with Streep's words at the Golden Globes.
That being said, there's this:
^ I'm also a hypocrite, I guess.
The fact that Streep did not protest bombing in the Middle East is not hypocritical with her statement about Trump. In order to call her a hypocrite, you need to find examples where she is on the opposite sides of the topics in her statement, such as disabled rights, immigration, etc.
Well... the point is that there has been a lot of evasion on this issue from the progressive movement. The anti-war left disappeared for eight years while someone they liked was doing the killing.
I know it's not the original topic of this thread, but I wouldn't mind hearing the issue of Obama's militarism addressed head-on rather than brushed aside. Do you defend the drone killings, or not think it's a very important issue in the scheme of things, or what?
. Meryl didnt seem to mind Mr Obama mocking disabled in this famous clip. She and the Democratic NewsMedia gave him a total pass.
