I'm having a great time learning about the man behind the bars (), keep those answer coming, honey!
Enjoy your day, you derserve it!

Much-deserved congratulations, B12B. Rally interesting answers, too. My question - the best birthday party you ever had?
BWW posters jump up and down in excitement to celebrate best12bars as CotD!
Congrats!
Hi, all---I'm coming up for air now, and will answer a few more!
"If you were an automobile, what car would you be and why?
If you could have anyone over for dinner, who would it be and what would you serve them?
DayDreamer----If I were a car? I'd be Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! Because I'm basically "retro," and I'd like to be able to go anywhere, adapt to anything, and ultimately "save the day." To answer #2---I'd have ALL OF YOU over for dinner, and serve you my honey's amazing meatball sauce! Of course, we'd need a bigger place, but I'm working on that...
* * * *
"walking outside, what sound is most likely to 'cause you an involuntary smile?
what image encountered is most likely to cause you to emit an involuntary chuckle?"
FidoRock --- Very thought-provoking... I'd have to say the sound of ocean waves! #2 would be the image of our cat Luigi, playing with his toys.
* * * * *
mominator---They're just "regular" margaritas, but made with top-shelf ingredients. I'm not stingy with the portions, either!

"If you had unlimited financial resources available to you, what is the first thing you would do with them? What long-term investment would you make?
If you found a magic lamp with your own personal genie and his 3 wishes, what would your wishes be?
If you could go back in time to any 24 hours period, where would you go? Would you try to change anything about that time?"
Mamie --- That's a good question! With unlimited resources, I'd make sure that my family and loved-ones were taken care of with all the basics for life. For long-term, I would set up a worldwide foundation to help others... with everything from health to the arts. For your next question... can I wish for more wishes? Hope so. If not... God, I'd almost be afraid to use them. I've seen all those TV shows, films and of course the Arabian Nights that tell how this can backfire. I'm sure i could think of something though! And your last question is major one! I tend to believe that things happen for a reason... and that good can come out of bad... so if I went back in time to change anything, I would worry that it might cause other (good) things to go "out of whack." BUT... if I could drop in for a day... and bump off Hitler... I'd say that might be worth the trouble it might cause.

1. Who are your favorite fashion designers? The classics---Dior, Givenchy, and Chanel.
2. Who are your favorite costume designers? Edith Head, Walter Plunkett, Adrian and Cecil Beaton.
3. Who are your favorite female vocalists? Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Judy Garland and Doris Day. (Aren't I an old fart???)
4. Who are your favorite male vocalists? Frank Sinatra, Mel Torme and Billy Joel.
5. Why did you choose Montgomery Clift as your av? Aside from the fact that I deeply respect him as an artist, I'm (slightly) related to him. My mother's second husband was his brother Brooks Clift. I guess that makes Monty my (deceased) step-uncle!
6. Which are your favorite Monty Clift movies and why? A Place in the Sun and From Here To Eternity are probably my favorites. He plays complex characters that both appeal and repel you. I think these films show him at his "movie star" best! I actually have his duffle bag that he carried in his opening scene in "Eternity" and one of his shirts from "Sun." Nice mementos. I also have inherited his bedside table, dresser and lamp from his brownstone in NY. They're in our guest room!
7. Congratulations on your ten-year relationship! That's wonderful. (And it's okay with me. I have another husband--Grizzabella--plus an incestuous relationship with my own sister, Jane2. My word, this is sounding like something out of Suddenly Last Summer.) QUESTION: What is the most important thing you have learned about yourself as a result of being with the same man for 10 years in a loving, committed relationship? Patience, trust and compromise. If you're with the right person, you can give these and receive them in equal proportions. Our commitment is to each other, not in staying the same or keeping things as they are. We have both grown and changed... yet stay committed and believe in each other as human beings. That's been the best part!
8. If you'd had the power to magically change any one event in history, what would it have been and why? There are so many to chose from, sadly... but I'd go with the Holocaust. I'd "remove" it, so it never happened.
9. Who is your favorite poet? I'm not big on poetry in general... but I'm drawn a lot to Walt Whitman.
10. What is your Number 1 favorite alcoholic drink? My killer Margaritas!
here's a dozen hugs for a dozen bars
and i hope i'm never chosen for this honor ... i don't think i could answer all those questions!
"My question - the best birthday party you ever had?"
pattifan2---Well, I've had many kinds of birthday parties, from extravagent to romantic to thoroughly forgettable. Each can be fine, depending on your own "mood" at the time. I always remember my 10th for some reason... I had about a dozen friends come over to the house for cake and ice cream, and then we piled into a couple of cars and went rollerskating (first) and then to a late matinee movie after that. I think it was something wretched like "Digby! The Biggest Dog in the World." Gawd. But I know my mother (in particular) knocked herself out to make it a special day for me... and she sure did. I will always remember that.
Thanks for answering all my questions, Besty.
My next question is...Can I come to visit and stay in your guest room?
You're so sweet. Do you give lessons?
Xooo

Mazel Tov, b12b!
Thanks BSO... and Penny---I don't think you want my "sweet" lessons. They go sour at unexpected, inopportune moments!
In other words... I have my "bitchy" side as well. But I suppose we all do.
As to all of you who have been wishing me well, thanks so much for taking the time to post here today. My ego is sufficiently stroked… And my “semi-cynical self” is feeling warm and fuzzy.
I only hope and wish that every single poster on BWW get the opportunity to have a “day” here like this. You all deserve it. And you'd be amazed at how nice it feels.
Hey... can I pick 300 people for tomorrow???
*rhetorical question*
Congratulations are in order
It will be a cold day you know where before I get named but it matters not. I congratulate those who do get the honor. Enjoy the day

Craig very wisely established that you could only be picked once a year - so everybody should get a turn. And in their own way, every poster here is unique and special within the community.
congrats!
DG---I agree!
Congratulations, Best12Bars!! I love your story about 12-bar jazz. My question is, if you could have composed any famous piece of music, what would it be?
I would like to give you a star, if you don't mind. Do you have a favorite one? If not, then look up in your November birthday sky and see Betelgeuse - the shoulder of Orion. It's a huge red star whose name in Arabic means "House of the Twins. (It was thought at one time to form part of Gemini's house). Zunis consider it to mark one of the divisions of the night.
B12, I almost forgot to ask you questions. You probably thought you’d lucked out. Sorry!
What has given you the most pleasure in the last year?
If we asked an important person in your life to describe you, what would he or she say? How accurate would it be?
What’s something that you’ve never done, but have always wanted to try?
What’s the last great gift that you gave someone? That you were given?
Tell us something that you think we’d be surprised to know about you?
Best...thanks for the name explanation. I just knew it had to do with 12 Bar Blues! LOL!
So, here's another question:
What had been the most meaningful theatrical experience you've been a part of, either as a spectator or participant?
I've enjoyed reading all of your posts and answers, b12b!
Hope you had a wonderful day!
Just catching up and enjoying learning new things about you, and hearing already-known things explained in different ways.
You are a sweet and special guy.
xoxo
Sometimes we can't see our own "sweetness" as clearly as others because we're mired in self-criticism.
You ARE sweet, Besty. I'm not the only one who thinks so. Re-read all of the posts in this thread today.
Just accept it, damn it, and stop arguing with me!!!
B12B,
I was far too busy with my typical Monday to stop in but I wanted to say Congrats! I just spent a few minutes catching up with you and Rathnait couldn't have chosen anyone better. What a swell guy! Swell, I says!
I've heard Rath go on and on about how wonderful you are for so long, it's nice to finally get to know the man behind the rapture.
She wasn't wrong--you're fantastic!

In these last few moments of your big day, I should add my love of best12. Note that he did not choose best 16 (as so many unimaginative casting directors choose), he chose 12.
12 is the number of disciples.
12 is the number of jurors.
12 is the number of months in a year.
12 is the number of faces on a dodecahedron.
12 is the number of wheel nuts on a Citroën 2CV and the Robin Reliant.
and 12 is the number of real nuts on six men.
Wonderful choice of number, best12. Wonderful choice.
The very BEST to you B12B, your always a treat to read...enjoy your final minutes!
I'm sprinting toward the "finish line" this morning!!!
justthefacts2---Thank you for the star!!!
*bows humbly with gratitude*
Now, if I say its name ("Betelgeuse") three times fast like Gina Davis... will a bald, pale Michael Keaton leap out of a grave?
* * * * *
What has given you the most pleasure in the last year? Making new friends... and our new cat Luigi!
If we asked an important person in your life to describe you, what would he or she say? How accurate would it be? Wow, I don't know WHAT they would say. I would HOPE it would include: nice, funny, thoughtful, talented, insightful... great-looking, wealthy, young, sexy... (okay, I'm getting delusional now)... but they'd be damn right in saying it!
What’s something that you’ve never done, but have always wanted to try? Well, I'd be lying if I said I STILL don't harbor a desire to be on Broadway. (Now, THERE's something none of you can relate to! ) I'm not actively persuing a theatre career now, but I still have that twinge of desire. My mother was in two Broadway plays (flops, even!)... but at least she "got there." Maybe someday, I will re-invent my life yet again, and I'll get there too. Who knows? I came close already, once or twice.
What’s the last great gift that you gave someone? That you were given? Well, it was my dad's birthday last week. I gave him the DVD of "Lust for Life" (Kirk Douglas as Van Gogh), a new bathrobe, and a silly miniature statue of an old painter that said "Aging is an art form" at the bottom.) The last gift I was given... a box of chocolates for Valentine's Day!
Tell us something that you think we’d be surprised to know about you? I'm not sure what would "surprise" any of you! Like everyone else, I have hidden talents, secrets and many sides to "me." I've had moderate successes in a variety of different areas... and some people raise an eyebrow to learn these different aspects of "who I am." I've been an actor, singer, author, musician, jingle writer, graphic designer and DVD producer... so usually I surprise people who know me as "one thing" when they find out I've done these other things.
* * * * *
What had been the most meaningful theatrical experience you've been a part of, either as a spectator or participant?
singingwendy---I would probably say the production of "A Little Night Music" when I played Henrik. For some reason all the Theatre Gods aligned for that show, and it was truly magical.

Thanks for your questions, Mamie!
What is the warmest, most secure memory you have? Walking home from grade school as child in the rain... and knowing that my mom would be waiting for my brother and me with the heat on, and a nice cup of hot chocolate when we got there.
When you were in school, what did you like to do during your long summer vacations? As a kid, I lived at the swimming pool. When I wasn't there, I was home drawing, painting, playing the piano, listening to music, reading... or out with the kids in the neighborhood playing games.
Were there lots of kids in your neighborhood? Yes! I was very lucky. Probably around 10-12 kids close to my age on our street. We used to play games after school all the time! And of course, we would put on plays and musicals... and I would direct, do the costumes and pick the shows... naturally!
Did you ever play ball in the street? Did you like it or did you just play because everybody else did? I ask that because I used to play ball out in the street all the time and I hated it. I used to get hit in the head with the ball all the time. (It explains a lot!) LOL! Yes, I played ball, but I didn't like it much either. I had asthma as a kid, and I could only participate to a certain point before I had to stop. My brother, on the other hand, was the jock. He was great at sports and even went to college on a full-ride baseball scholarship as a pitcher.
We are each the architect of our own heaven. What is yours going to be like? It's going to have LOTS of welcoming souls... great "art direction," sets, costumes, lighting... and the most beautiful music you've ever heard.
