Ok, Best. I think I have to stick with my usual interests-art. Do you have any interest in art or photography? If so, do you have any favorites, and is any of it on your walls?
Congrats B12B!!!
If you were an automobile, what car would you be and why?
If you could have anyone over for dinner, who would it be and what would you serve them?

Yay B12B! You're one of the posters I most admire here.
No question from me yet, I want to think up a doozy.
b12b...
congratulations!!
walking outside, what sound is most likely to 'cause you an involuntary smile?
what image encountered is most likely to cause you to emit an involuntary chuckle?
Thank b12b. mmmmm margaritas.... mango or strawberry? Frozen oron the rocks?
bwayaddict---I realize now that I didn't fully answer your question! The earliest childhood memory that made me interested in theatre? Well, my parents were both in the theatre, so I have a few standout memories. I saw my mother play Ruth in "Blithe Spirit," and I LOVED it when she turned into a ghost at the very end and started magically tearing up the place. I remember how much the audience laughed at her... and how it was freaky when she came out "all ghostlike" with the makeup and costume. That made a huge impression on me (at the age of 5). And I remember my father (who was a jack of all trades in the theatre) designing the costumes for the opera "The Magic Flute." I was in the green room with the three Witches and the Queen of the Night... and I just kept staring at their amazing costumes and makeup and thinking... wow, my daddy "made those up."
And one of my earliest (admittedly vague) memories at the age of 3, was sitting on Patty Duke's lap while Dick Smith did her makeup in her dressing room for "The Patty Duke Show." My father was a cameraman on that show. I guess it was "toddler day" at work or something. But I do remember that Patty was so terrific with me.
So I guess the grease paint was in my blood right from the start!
More answers to come... I'm still reading!
Thanks again to all who are weighing in! You've really made my day.
I will write more later, but I just had to congratulate MY HUSBAND!!!! (Well, one of them, anyway. No divorce here, just bigamy.)
Remember our wedding day?
What is your favorite "comfort" read or music?
Grizzy---I can always go back to The Great Gatsby or Catcher in the Rye... although I don't find myself reading too many books multiple times. But I can always return to those two. As far as "comfort" music... two film scores stand out for me: Peyton Place (Franz Waxman) and To Kill A Mockingbird (Elmer Bernstein). My two favorites by far. And Aaron Copeland's "Appalachian Spring" or "Our Town." They make me think, relax me and inspire me, every time.
What five people with public voices - either living or dead, as long as their 'message' is available to the public - are worth listening to, and why?
DG---I'll give you the people that have touched my life personally. There are many throughout history, but the major ones that have affected my life... I'll give you the short answer now, and I'll do my best to give you more of the "why" later.... (in random order)...
Martin Luther King Jr.
Gandhi
Jesus Christ
Eleanor Roosevelt (although more by her life as example than by her "message")
Frank Capra (an odd choice to most, but I'll try to explain later!)
...More to come! I'll read through everything. Promise!
Congrats, Best! Have a great day!
kissmycookie---My ideal meal would be rich with flavor, calories and decadence... and add no actual weight to me whatsoever! I grew up in "Meat and Potatoes Land," so as I've gotten older I moved away from that a bit. I'm partial to Mexican and Chinese food now. But my partner is Italian... and makes the best damn pot of sauce you've ever tasted! So, that with any choice of pasta will ring my bell every time.
singingwendy---Why "best12bars?" Here's my answer from another thread (a good while back)...
It's an old theatre story. Back when I was pounding the pavements in New York a couple of decades ago, we'd be told every now and then at the ugly cattle calls to sing our "best 8 bars" of a song. Frustrated, I walked into an audition one time and suggested to them if I sang the blues could I get 12 bars? (Fortunately the musical director thought that was hilarious. He understood that "blues" is written in 12 bar phrases instead of 8, and it was my clever and pathetic way of trying to get 4 more bars out of it. He told me just for that, I could sing the whole damn song. I got a callback and almost landed the part... it was a replacement for a lead on Broadway. They narrowed it down to three of us and that's when I got cut. The point is, I decided to be gutsy, semi-clever... and ask for more time to be heard... and it paid off. So I decided to use that as my "name" on this board. It seemed like a personal but logical choice for me.
Great story-here I was assuming you were a big drinker!
Jane2---Yes I have a great interest in art and photography. My dad was (is?) really a "rennaisance man," meaning in addition to his acting/directing/writing/designing for theatre... he also worked as a professional photographer for years (with Life Magazine and others) AND he is a painter. I have an amazing photo from a shoot he did jointly with Nina Leen for "Life" of Helen Keller and Patty Duke together. It was taken the day that Patty met Helen for the first time, while she was in rehearsals to play her on Broadway. Patty is signing "hello" into Helen's 80-year-old hand. (Interesting that my dad would join Patty several years later as a cameraman on her TV show.) But this particular photo is amazing... and it was never published in the actual magazine. They chose a different shot for the page, so I guess I have a "one of a kind" from that shoot, hanging in my living room. I also have several of my father's original paintings. He was greatly influenced by Lautrec and Van Gogh... and so was I, as a result. I feel like they're old friends of mine, going back to my childhood.
Wow Best-your father is/was? amazing! What a talented guy! You do indeed have a valuable photo of Patty and Helen. You have original Lautrecs and Van Goghs? Which ones? If you don't want to say pubicly, maybe you'll pm me.
Yikes! No. Not original Lautrecs and Van Goghs. I WISH.
Those were Dad's influences as a painter... and mine too. But I have several "original" Dad paintings.
LOL!
Another thing we have in common: my dad was a fashion designer, my mom was a singer, and my my great aunt made costumes in Hollywood for the movies (in the 1930s!).
So here are some questions:
1. Who are your favorite fashion designers?
2. Who are your favorite costume designers?
3. Who are your favorite female vocalists?
4. Who are your favorite male vocalists?
5. Why did you choose Montgomery Clift as your av?
6. Which are your favorite Monty Clift movies and why?
7. Congratulations on your ten-year relationship! That's wonderful. (And it's okay with me. I have another husband--Grizzabella--plus an incestuous relationship with my own sister, Jane2. My word, this is sounding like something out of Suddenly Last Summer.) QUESTION: What is the most important thing you have learned about yourself as a result of being with the same man for 10 years in a loving, committed relationship?
8. If you'd had the power to magically change any one event in history, what would it have been and why?
9. Who is your favorite poet?
10. What is your Number 1 favorite alcoholic drink?
Oops, sorry Best! It looks like I'm developing a learning disability with reading in my old age~
Oh-and don't mind Miss P-she's delusional.
I made such a good choice. Isn't he great??
Yes Rath, this is a great guy-good choice!
You made an amazing choice Rath!
Jane, what do you mean I'm "delusional"????
Kudos, best!
"Jane, what do you mean I'm "delusional"????
Meaning I don't do incest!
...during the week...
Oh, is THAT all? I thought you meant I was delusional for posting a photo of Best and me in which I look like Elizabeth Taylor. Whew. What a relief.
