Regardless of whether or not he's around today to check, I'd like to throw my Congratulation to our (absent) CotD. My question for him is similar to the questions Kitz and KelRel asked - Was your screen name chosen because you were a fan of the book or the musical or both?

And if he doesn't check in or feel like answering questions, that's understandable. At any rate, my hat is still off to our CotD.

Given the sort of "community" ruling that is spreading up on this thread, I think we've already sort of made the decision. The question is how to do this so a successor either gets the 3-day weekend or something to keep from getting stuck with today's "half day."

I am 99% certain that Elphaba picked his username as a fan of the book Wicked, not the musical.

While his join date wouldn't make it impossible, it seems improbable that he is sharing his love for the musical.

Based on what he said, I am not sure a 4 day weekend would really help since he isn't going to be on until Sunday night anyway.

Scott, you and Steve are definitely in my thoughts today and I am sorry that this honor came on such a terrible day. I second the thought that you should postpone your day until a time you are more in the spirit to participate.

Craig doesn't seem to be around. Can we come to some kind of a concensus in preparation for his return?

I propose that Shameless take over the remainder of today and serve as the CoW until Monday morning. I propose this for two reasons: 1) she was instrumental in shaping this thread by being the one who started asking questions, and 2) she was a close second to Undi yesterday.

I also propose that things then continue in a normal manner until Elphaba feels up to taking his turn, at which time he will be slipped in, but will have to forfit naming a successor. The person who is the CoD on the day before Elphaba "reigns" will pick a successor for the day *after* Elphaba is CoD.

It's not perfect, but it could work.

I kind of feel that the CoD should have a WHOLE day to him/herself. Can't we just skip one for today and have Undi choose someone else who starts tomorrow?

That's just my 2 cents. I'll go along with the consensus though.

But Undi HAS chosen. She chose Elphaba, and to have her choose someone else would mean he had his day taken away, which kind of adds insult to injury in my book.

As much of today has slipped by, I would say let Shameless have the weekend - for the many reasons that iflit has stated. Then Elphaba can have Monday - which might be a nice thing to come home to - and then Shamelss can pick Tuesday's honoree. The only thing missing would be Elphaba's pick - which I'm sure he'd understand under the circumstances.

Master said something about answering questions in a separate thread at a later date. If Elphaba can’t have a rain check, maybe that would work. Like Iflit said, I doubt he’ll be up to answering a bunch of questions when he gets home Sunday night. But, I'm hoping he gets a rain check.

I agree, DG...my only modification being that we should let Elphaba say when he is ready. Monday might be a little soon. Let's let them deal with real life and not turn this into a duty, but rather, wait until it can be a joy for him.
