jane, i regret not being more disciplined about writing in college.

I believe Vish is in a foreign land where -- thank god! -- music is fun again! I hear wherever she goes she's trailed by a minor domo, a dwarfish delusional bald man. But that's just what I hear.

Papa--this is a nice question.

It has often been said that "A liberal is just a conservative who hasn't been mugged yet" or "A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged."

Tell us about the mugging that caused an otherwise intelligent person like you to begin harboring such antediluvian and reactionary opinions as "The Republican Party is a party that stands for honesty and ethics" or "George Bush will go down in history as a great man" or "The Republican Party isn't REALLY anti-gay--that's just a lunatic fringe that exerts no influence whatsoever."

When did you first REALIZE you were Republican? What do you LIKE about the policies of the Bush administration and and the current platforms of the Republican party?

oo.. how very cool! I think I'm new enough still that I haven't seen a "papalovesmambo" post, but, I think it's very foretelling that that I've been singing that song for two days and making folks around me smile ('cause I only know 40% of the tune)... porterhouse rare with rice pilaf and creamed spinach, babyback ribs with corn on the cob, pulled pork (seasoned with vineager sauce) with string beans, general tso's chicken (or dog or cat or rat, it's nyc after all), lots of lemon lime seltzer and dots.

Smart - it has been my experience that, while the opinions may differ, papa has an ENORMOUS capacity to view a situation objectively and acknowledge what reality is.

pj, it's nice to be nice to the nice, isn't it?

i became a republican after watching jimmy carter allow 52 americans to sit for 444 days under the thumb and at the whim of islamist radicals in iran.

i'm close to being a single issue voter in that my support for the current administration stems from iraq and the choice to go in and do what i felt was and is necessary to change the balance of power in the middle east and upset a status quo that brought its people nothing but violence and oppression.

now, i wonder whose opinions you've placed in quotation marks in your post since i've never said them. you know, quotation marks when used in reference to someone's opinion general imply that the person whose opinion you're discussing was the person you're quoting.

you're not trying imply that i've said things that i haven't, are you my dear and lifelong friend, pj?

Well, papa and I may disagree on many political issues, but we have been known to actually agree now and again.

Papa - knowing what you know now, who would you have preferred to win in 2000, Bush or Gore.

And, if there was one thing you could change about how the war with Iraq could have been managed, what would it be?
