I love me some Michael Fassbender, but I wasn't aware that Shakespeare wrote MACBETH in "the original Scottish language."

Does that mean we'll have to call it "The Scottish Movie"?

I don't know about her Shakespearean skills, but his chemistry with Charlize Theron makes her look like a good candidate for Lady Macbeth

I would go see it even if he performs it in the original Pig Latin.

Have you heard about the movie where he wears a giant mask the entire time? The man's acting is incredible, but his looks and expressions assist with that.

Love the idea of Charlize as his Lady Macbeth, though I rather be his Lady Macbeth, or his anything really. Speaking of, there should be a SHAME 2.

I checked the original link and it seems the "original Scottish language" line is pure Broadwayworld. Classic Broadwayworld, even. The link does say "The new take on Shakespeare’s classic...is set in the 11th century and in the original language" so I can see how TalkMoviesWorld got confused.

Less than excited about this. My interest in Michael Fassbender has waned a good deal after his entirely adequate but not-exactly stellar performances in things like SHAME and that dreadful JANE EYRE, that X-MEN thing and most recently that idiotic PROMETHEUS thing. I'd rather see other people get the work, frankly.

And Ms. Portman as Lady Macbeth? That's like casting Georgia Engel as Captain Ahab.

Viola Davis recently said that Lady Macbeth is her dream role, I'd have rather seen a new film with her in the role. I love Portman but Theron or Laura Linney would have been more interesting choices.

I like Natalie but she has never read period which I presume that Macbeth will stick with. Linney reads too American. My short-list would have been Knightley, Theron, Chastain, and Andrea Riseborough but only one of those actresses match Portman in being bankable as a co-lead.

As for Fassbender, his role in Hunger and his argument with the priest always had me thinking Macbeth for some reason (mainly because I always felt another Macveth movie was bound to happen but there needed to be a star). Also great in Fish Tank in a pretty complicated role but not buried in subtext like his role in Shame. I agree his more commercial work has sort of made him bland though he was the best thing about Prometheus beyond its flawless design and aesthetic.

I guess Portmant getting cast is Fassbender giving her an IOU for leaving Jane's Got a Gun, that Portman stars and produces in, had the production scrambling and ultimately led to multiple re-casting and director Lynne Ramsay leaving the film.

I would pay a lot of money to see Georgia Engel as Captain Ahab.

Meh, Portman. As far as I'm concerned no one will ever be better than Kate Fleetwood.

Ah, well. What's done cannot be undone.

Enter Miss Portman, sleepwalking, with eyes black and lifeless like Karen Cartwright's

I think she's a terrible actress. I know that's a minority opinion, but I just think she's sometimes mediocre at best, but usually just dreadful.

Natalie Portman honestly does best when she plays salt of the earth girls. Her performances in Where The Heart Is and Anywhere But Here are stunning. When she does archetypes or high drama, even in Black Swan-she suffers greatly. Shes not very convincing. I think she got the Oscar for her weight loss and going crazy while making the film.

Im sure MACBETH will be full frontal if Fassbender has any say. He loves getting naked.

Ugh, Portman does nothing for me either. I really didn't think her performance in Black Swan was anything special, and there has to be someone better- Charlize Theron really would be terrific.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

I'll agree, Portman was terrific in CLOSER. Maybe she'll rise to the occasion here. I won't be going out of my way to find out, though.

I sense Portman will be as effective in this as she was in Other Boleyn Girl, which I hated. Anne Boleyn was NOT a whiny scheming you-know-what. But I digress (and I really hate that movie).

She could surprise all of us, though.
