Wow. Growing up in the "modern era", in a very accepting environment, post Will and Grace, Glee, Born This Way etc...it really is quite startling when you realise what hatred and prejudice is still out there. It makes me fearful and sad.

I saw in the Republican debate this past week where she kept saying that she is 100% pro life and something to the effect that every human being should have decency or something like that. Maybe some of you can remember the exact quote. That's why I don't understand how anyone who feels that way could be so anti-gay. Her vocal mannersims don't bother me as much as the skin-crawling Palin's but what comes out of her mouth is just so... you know what I mean!

i'm sure i'm sounding like a broken record, but again, the answer is easy: organized religion.

as weinberg says, left to their own devices, good people will try to do good things, evil people will do evil things, if you want someone to do something wicked, that takes religion.

we live in a society that actively inculcates innocent children into believing that our holy texts are infallible, yet these "truths" are so stupid they see instantly through it (is that for true, mommy?) and it takes years before they swallow it. leviticus either says homosexuality is an abomination or it doesn't. if it does, it is either true, or it isn't. to me, it's self-evidently not true, and are the ramblings on illiterate sheepherders from bronze age palestine, but, as a society, we insist on teaching our children otherwise (liberals included, though the liberal side makes extraordinary strains to make it come out right. i'm sorry, it's not a metaphor or anything else, it means what it says, and it means to call homosexuality an abomination).

this is evident in the quote from bachman here:

the simple solution to her inquiry is that we teach our children the truth, as best we understand it, instead of teaching them to be ashamed of their own sexuality (as all religions do): we are highly evolved mammals. like other mammals, after a certain point, we reach an age of sexual maturity which gives us strong urges, as every adult here knows. for reasons that are poorly understood, those urges are at times directed at people of the same gender, and this is observable in nature. but it is an accident of birth, it is not something people can change.

but over and over, our society (and liberals are guilty of this too) insists that these crackpot religions are okay, and that we can somehow all work it out so that we all get along. i say it here and now: until american society throws off the mental chains of organized religion, there will never be equal rights for gays: we will continue to get simpering nonsense like, "we love the sinner, but hate the sin" (an immoral and wicked philosophy). we cannot edit these holy texts, which contain mountains of life destroying nonsense, and the ramblings to ignorant shepherds from ancient palestine will never be the friend of gay rights.

I open Broadway World and the ad directly under the facebook and twitter link in the left hand column is for "Bachmann for President 2012." I log on and it becomes an add for supporting same-sex marriage in NY State.. Hmm.

Guys, you know the ads on here are based on the material you have been viewing, right? You are reading threads about Republicans, so the ads are for things the computer thinks you are interested in.

In the past contacting Rob and telling him you find an ad distasteful has led to him contacting the powers that be and requesting that ad not appear on the website, but he does not control what ads appear.

Antigay Minnesota congresswoman Michele Bachmann is apparently a big fan of Glee, or at least her children are.

Bachmann was at a Time magazine party Thursday. New York magazine reports that the Republican politician, who fights marriage equality at every turn, posed with Glee star Darren Criss, who stars as a gay teen on the popular series about musical high-schoolers.

"We looked for Chris Colfer," Bachmann told New York, though she never found him. On Glee, Colfer plays Kurt, an outspoken gay student whose love life and struggles with bullying have become one of the show's main story lines. Glee was also created by a gay man — Ryan Murphy. "We don’t watch TV, generally speaking. But the kids were thrilled. What kids don’t watch Glee?" Bachmann said.
