Mitt Romney told an Iowa crowd on Thursday that the country should not raise taxes to shore up Medicare and Social Security because "corporations are people" too.
Responding to a question from an audience member as to why Social Security should be included in deficit talks when it doesn't add to the deficit, Romney drifted into a defense of corporate rights.
"Corporations are people, my friend," he said. "Of course they are."
After receiving jeers from the audience over the quote, he elaborated: "Everything corporations earn goes to people. Where do you think it goes? Whose pockets? People's pockets. Human beings, my friend."
Romney went on to suggest raising the retirement age rather than increasing taxes on business in order to fix entitlement programs' shortfalls.

LOL! He's really connecting with the average American isn't he? If he ends up being the nominee Obama should use that sound clip in his ads.
As a resident of Massachusetts, I had a front row seat of his ability to "govern", as a blue star mom he had no good answer as to why not one of his sons is serving his country.
I don't think Obama could - in good faith - use the clip in his ads because his actions as President - sadly - very much fall in line with Romney's thinking.
I guess he's being prepped by Palin.
No matter what is said by Romney or whoever becomes the GOP nominee, millions of Americans will vote against their interest and vote for whatever name has an 'R' next to it.
mominator, I don't think he owes you an answer to that question. His sons are none of our business.
When his answer was "My sons are doing something FAR MORE IMPORTANT, by working to see that I am elected". His sons are all adults (past 21) so yes if he wants to be commander in chief it is a viable question.
If A=B and B=C then A=C is true, does this all mean that soylent green is corporations?

Wow, such honesty on Romney's part won't go unpunished by the Republican Powerbase.
I'm still not sure you're right, mominator - but I guess I don't want you to judge his sons too harshly on account of my own inaction and guilt about pursuing other paths (for the time being, at least).

I guess this means that gay corporations can get marry each other in NY. Will Romney support a constitutional amendment banning gay corporate marriage?
Corporations who need corporations are the luckiest people in the world.
Telling Mominator that Mits sons are none of our business is a joke.
"but I guess I don't want you to judge his sons too harshly on account of my own inaction and guilt about pursuing other paths"
You are obviously more concerned with how you will look than why Mr. Romney's sons aren't serving.
And yes, it is our business.
You are entirely incorrect if you got that from my post, TheatreDiva.

In an election year- 'tis the season to be shameless.
Romney's excuses for all of his five sons not serving despite the fact all seem to be of good health, at least one of them was working to be a doctor and that career is more than welcomed in the military, and all of age to serve involved him saying that their service for their country included his campaign for President. Pretty sure he got heat for that but his candidacy as the top contender petered out in 2008 pretty quickly. It was not like those boys had a Mormon mission in Europe to do during the Vietnam War in which their father effectively ended his national political career by opposing it and his party.

The point about his sons not serving IS valid because he response indicated that working to elect him is more important than serving the nation. We also can't forget the recent revelation that Multimillionaire Mitt has been claiming his son's unfinished basement as his primary residence in order to vote in Mass. elections when properties (mansions) that he owns are nowhere within the state. Rachel Maddow has done some great reporting periodically about that fact.
Watch Romney lose his cool when an intrepid reporter calls him out on an outright lie. And watch all the way to the end. His press rep is an even bigger ass.
GO GLEN!!!
