I have 2 that I just don't get the hype on, one past and one present.
past: nick nolte. if someone could site me a reference that would change my mind, i'd appreciate it.
present: josh hartnett. aside from him being attractive, i just don't get it.

OO I agree about Josh Hartnett. I liked him in Pearl Harbor but he had that same LOOK in all his other movies..even Black Hawk Down and that 40 Days and 40 Nights one.

I'm not denying that Penn has talent. I'm just saying that he's not the GREATEST. ACTOR. ALIVE. reputation that he has. He does stretch his wings occaisionally but he's always the same guy...all the time. There is a reason why his most famous character is Spicoli from Fast Times...even moreso than his Oscar-winning performance in Mystic River.

Denzel certainly did not play the Glory character in Training Day...

This country's fascination with Adam Sandler is something that will always mystify me. I didn't even like him in PUNCH DRUNK LOVE.
Oh, and that phony Kate Beckinsale. What is up with that?
I think Nolte is brilliant, especially in "Life Lessons" from NEW YORK STORIES and his violent, closet-case bad cop in Q&A.

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”

I find that these things have to do more with the roles they get more than anything. I love it when actors who are alawys typecast finally convince a studio to cast them in a role that shows they can actaully, gasp...ACT, rather than play the same role over and over again, which is how Hollywood likes it now. I think if they randomly picked actor's names out of a hat to cast, lots of movies would become brilliant because of the unique casting that would keep them fresh.

Link- that's what my mom said about Nicole Kidman. She always couldn't stand watching one of her movies (bummer since I buy them like..all) until she watched The Hours.

Jude Law. I like him as an actor and I know he can do very well, but he's always playing the same kind of character. Only a few times is he actually playing someone with more depth than a good-looking womanizer.

Nicole Kidman, Renee Zellwegger, Colin Ferrell (sp?), all the OC people
And the other thing about the Phantom Lady was, Bert, she realized, in the city that never sleeps...
What did she realize, Kitten?
That all the songs she'd listened to, all the love songs, that they were only songs.
What's wrong with that?
Nothing, if you don't believe in them. But she did, you see. She believed in enchanted evenings, and she believed that a small cloud passed overhead and cried down on a flower bed, and she even believed there was breakfast to be had...
Where?
On Pluto. The mysterious, icy wastes of Pluto.

Do I have to be the first to say it? TOM CRUISE! He was good in Risky Business but everything after that is just crap.
And I love Nicole.
and Keanu Reeves should go back to bed. The same goes for Will Ferrel and Adam Sandler, although I like him in 50 First Dates...

Adam was great in 50 first dates, I love that movie, not as much as I love Wedding Singer though, so those are the only Adam Sandler movies I like him in.
Tom cruise is such a weirdo IMO. His relationship with Katie Holmes is such a farce. Plus, he's a okay actor. Not really amazing acting wise.

Right now I'd say that Will Ferrel is the most overrated. He was funny on SNL.. but it doesn't really carry into the big screen.
