That is insane (the idea of having that many children.)

It's beyond insane. Can we make sure that this family isn't receiving any type of government assistance?
Why should you and I as tax payers, pay them to support themselves?
What type of jobs do these parents have where they can afford to raise 18 children?

Once the kids get to a certain size they can no longer crawl into the still to clean it out, so they have to keep them coming.

They're hardcore conservative; they believe welfare is for inner-city teenage mothers. TLC built and furnished a 7,000 square foot house for them- and they since hold church in their home, they are exempt from property taxes. Plus 17 deductions. But welfare is BAD.

I LOVE the TLC shows on this family, but they are just plain weird.
Rant, Wickud, Rant, Wickud, Rant! We're not gonna pay Rant! 'Cause everythink is Wickud!

Yeah, I didn't even know #17 existed until today. LOL! Seriously, I think they are trying to form their own cult. Just imagine, the kids will all live on or near the property of their current house, and they'll all have 500 kids. Eventually, there will be so many that nobody will know each other anymore, so then some will start dating, get married, and have incest kids. Eww!!!!!!!

"How can they afford to have 18 children?"
I think when you get up to that many, you don't pay for anything.

So the answer to financial freedom is about 2 dozen diapers to change, and I'll assume a bonus for every heartwarming smile or adorable TV moment. Great, all I need now is a husband!

I think some women are sort of addicted to being pregnant. Seriously. I'm not sure if it's hormones, or just psychology, or both, but some women don't feel complete unless they are with child. I think I read an article about this somewhere. Many women just do it by being surrogate mothers, rather than having 1,000 babies of their own.

From what I remember from the specials on this family on TLC, there is no addiction to being pregnant, I think anyway. The parents clearly just have sex and don't believe in birth control. It seems that way anyway because they did say that they would have all the children that God would bless them with. Or something to that affect. But yeah, I really believe they are trying to start their own cult of people with J names, except for the mother.

There are some people who don't believe in birth control and couldn't they feasibly have around 30-40 kids?

"She and her husband, Jim Bob Duggar, said they'll keep having children as long as God wills it."
Uh ... okay, I believe in God, but just because they keep having kids doesn't mean that it's "God's will." It's damn biology is what it is.
Wears me out reading about it.

Just because you 'can' doesn't mean you 'should'.

Me too, DG.
I like children but don't understand the desire to have litters of them! How do you even get to enjoy them or cultivate a special relationship with them individually when there are that many?

when i graduated i had to stand still on a bleacher while a camera scanned across from left-to-right to take a picture, pretty soon this family will encounter the same thing... and it really sucks.
i highly doubt any of these children get special attention from their parents, they probably stopped naming them after five or six of them popped out... or stopped trying to remember their names...
