How about tv shows too? For that, Lorelai Gilmore all the way. That would be way awesome.

Sally, I've never heard of Stay? What's it about?

Rent, of course
LOTR, I love hobbits.
Harry Potter, is it just me or is that boy growing up to look GOOD!

and others, that I just can't think of right now.

Predictable for me, but Love Actually. There are characters I would love to hug or slap (I'm not going through all 20).

But, really, I have the *purest* of intentions for David (Hugh Grant), Jamie (Colin Firth), Karl (hot Brazilian guy who's name I cannot remember), Mark (Andrew Lincoln), and Daniel (LIAM NEESON. yum). re: Movies Where You Wish You Knew the Characters Personally

LoudIrishGirl- Stay is about this college student (Ryan Gosling) who is like majorly depressed and tries to commit suicide numerous times, but his professor (Ewan McGregor) tries to help him because this professor is haunted by the memories of his girlfriend's (Naomi Watts) attempts at suicide. And soon Gosling turns into this really WACKED out kid who like mentally tortures the professor.

The Silence of the Lambs.

I could go to the firing range with Clarice, go clothes shopping with Buffalo Bill, then dinner and a movie with Hannibal Lecter. Mwahaha!

But, in all seriousness, Hannibal would make for a fascinating conversation partner.

I don't know if I agree with those of you that say RENT...

do you guys really want those people as your friends? while the people they play are very real and all around us - especially in NYC - they are nothign more than a glamorization of those people. I don't know how many drug addicts or HIV positive drag queens you know - but I know a few - and their life isn't like RENT. I would never want friends like those in RENT.

I third Garden State. Any scene with Sam (Natalie Portman), seeemed really like a 'slice of life' instead of x playing z --she is one of the most real characters I have seen on screen.

Millie- Karl = Rodrigo Santoro = YUM. Apparently, he's the "Brad Pitt of Brazil."

munk- I agree re: characters of RENT as friends. I too know some drag queens/HIV + people, and there is NOTHING glamorous about it. It's heartbreaking and painful.

Harry Potter- Because I'm madly in love with him... and slightly psychotically obsessed with everything to do with Harry Potter (except for Hermione, she can rot)

The Producers (original movie)- Who doesn't love Gene Wilder? He's so freakin' adorable.

Sky High- Who wouldn't want friends with a bunch of super powers?

And probably a lot more but I'm having a brain fart.
