Not sure if this is obscure enough, but I really, Really, REALLY like Widow's Peak (1994) starring Joan Plowright, Mia Farrow, and Natasha Richardson.
Has anyone mentioned Wag the Dog?
A sharp political satire.
I absolutely LOVE Wag The Dog.
The Black Balloon - an Australian film about a teenage boy with an autistic brother, and Toni Collette as his mom - very subtle outrageously good acting, I loved it.
Paris 36 - a semi-musical story about a Parisian theatre in 1936. Y'all should check it out.
Also a big fan of the previously mentioned Widow's Peak, The Host and Swimming Pool.

I read THE GO-BETWEEN earlier this year and was really knocked out by it, and I've been wanting to see the film ever since. Is it available on video?
I feel like most of the movies I love are movies that most people have never heard of, especially my favorite silent films. Just last month I attended the San Francisco Silent Film Festival, and saw a screening of G. W. Pabst's astonishing PANDORA'S BOX, starring the luminous Louise Brooks. I'd known the film for years, and was looking forward to the new restoration they were screening, and I was absolutely knocked out by it all over again -- I attended with a good friend and we were both so stunned that we had to go for a long walk afterward just to recover from the film's incredible impact.
Speaking of silent films, The Crowd is one of my all-time favorites, silent or otherwise. With all the crap MGM has spit out on DVD, they sat on this one?!?!
these range from the relatively under celebrated to the tragically overlooked:
Look At Me (Agnes Jaoui)
Midnight (Mitchell Leisen)
The Winslow Boy (David Mamet)
Adalen 31 (Bo Wilderberg)
Dean Spanley (Toa Fraser)
The Beggar's Opera (Peter Brook)
La Ceremonie (Claude Chabrol)
Swimming Pool and Eight Women (Francois Ozon)
The Devil's Backbone (Guillermo del Toro)

THE CROWD isn't even available on the Warner Archive, which is a real shame.
^ I agree, Roscoe. Hopefully, soon.
henrik---"Midnight" is one of the best screwball comedies of the 1930s, bar none.

In the 1990's, my aunt worked a video company and she would send movies that were soon going to be released but were failures. One of them was animated film based off the story, 'The Princess and the Goblin'. Here's a clip of a song from the film.

Oops, I gave the wrong title, LOL.
It's "The PRIVATE Life of Sherlock Holmes," by Billy Wilder.
The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes video clip
Of course the "Pufnstuf" feature film with Mamma Cass and Martha Raye beats them all.
