I think somewhere there is a similar thread but I can't find it. If anyone can please feel free to link!

I was just perusing my collection and realized that Cabaret is not on BD. As far as I know there are no plans for a transfer.

The sound on the DVD is mediocre at best. So much room for improvement.

What else?

Cabaret is meant to come out this Fall (which I only discovered due to the interview with Liza done on this site)--and yes, it would top my list as well.

I'm happy Disney is finally starting to release the Studio Ghibli blu-rays Japan has had for a while--my dream would be for them to finally release Only Yesterday as well--Takahata's masterpiece, but I don't see it happening any time soon. Speaking of Takahata, it's disappointing the new release of Grave of the Fireflies is not blu-ray.

I'd also love to see some sort of release on blu-ray for Jacques Demy's musicals--not just Cherbourg, Rochefort and Donkey Skin, but at least Chambre en Ville as well, but again, I don't see that happening anytime soon.

The Hitchcocks are going to be released in England in the coming months, which would indicate a US release at some point.

I'm very much looking forward to the LAWRENCE OF ARABIA Blu-Ray that is coming out later this year.

Cabaret is meant to come out this Fall

Sweet! Just made my day!!

And Cherbourg is another great missing movie. It's even out of print on DVD-R1.

Lawrence of Arabia is another must.

Btw, it was just announced that E.T. will come out this Fall, and Spielberg put back in the original guns the army had (they were Lucased out for the dvd with something, I can't even remember what - radios I think).

Flashlights I think? Beyond ridiculous and I was pleased when Spielberg said he regretted making the changes.

Agreed about Lawrence of Arabia--surely it's going to be released soon. The Cherbourg releases in R1 have been spotty--thgere was a (apparently) great box set of Demy films done in France a while back, but those prints have never been used here.

Glad I made your day :P I admit I never bought Cabaret on DVD because it wasn't even an anamorphic transfer, but was thinking about it when I saw how cheap it has been on Amazon lately--until now. I hope All That Jazz gets a transfer as well.

Cabaret is such a ****ty transfer they didn't even put it in a plastic case. My copy is in one those supposedly Eco-friendly (read: cheap) cardboard snap cases.

Also, just for everyone's info: all the films that Warner Archive is releasing which have been available before are now anamorphic.

Has anyone seen the new BD Camelot?

A BD transfer is only as good as the time and attention put into it. The throngs of releases of older titles on blu-ray rarely warrant a re-purchase. Movies that are not considered classic rarely get any type of upgrade when transfered.

I think BD is best suited for films coming out now that are show with the latest technology available.

As far as what I'd like to see on BD or DVD is "Only When I Laugh", a Neil Simon classic that has NEVER been released in any format other than VHS. I mean, WTF?

Also, I am still waiting for the TV series "Alice" to be released when every other crap show with one or two seasons get released.

I'd like to see the Maysle's Grey Gardens and The Beales of Grey Gardens released on Criterion BD. I'd also like Criterion to release their "Evita" and "Carrie" on BD.

I had no idea Criterion did Evita. I would love Carrie as well--we've gotten some pretty great DePalma BD releases but I miss the extras. Bettyboy, you're right that often BD releases don't warrant the upgrade, but when done with care they can be pretty exciting to see.

morosco, Ben Hur is out on BD.

Betty, Warner Archive is set to issue Only When I Laugh soon. They just released Chapter Two last week as they begin putting out the Neil Simon catalog. I'll post it when there is a date.

A true Criterion mystery:

They have released the first and third films of Antonioni's classic trilogy (L’avventura and Eclipse) but not the middle film (La Notte). How frustrating is that?

Walkie-Talkies. So stupid. This is why I refused to watch it when it was re-released 10 years ago, and I was psyched to finally get to see it on the big screen since it originally came out when I was a baby. They also dubbed over the part where the older brother Mike wants to go as a terrorist for Halloween. In the 2002 revision the mother now said, "You are not going as a hippie." I suppose that one's understandable 'cause 9/11 had just happened several months before and everyone was on edge, but there's nothing really offensive about being a hippie.

BTW: My fave (and underrated) Disney film Pocahontas needs to be released on Blu-ray. The animation is just exquisite, I can only imagine what it'll look like in BD.

ETA2: apparently it's out in France on BD. So if the transfer is done I'm sure it's just a matter of time.

Oh, yay! Thanks, guys. *so excited*

I just hope the cover art doesn't suck. They almost always do. The original VHS cover art of the Disney films were far and away better than the DVDs.

The ice Storm is my favorite film. I've written to criterion asking when turtles going to put it on blu, but I've never received a response.
