Having attended BTP last summer, and NHSI and Broadway Artists Alliance this summer, let me say that all programs are FANTASTIC, and although they DO cost a bit of money, they are all worth it.
BTP- VERY dancing oriented, and when they say intensive, they mean intensive. It is a great program, with a great faculty, and a hardcore curriculum. I would definitely check it out. Next summer will be different though, because this was Ann's last summer as Program Director.
NHSI- 5 weeks of acting. It is physically AND emotionally intense. I love all three programs SO much, but I honestly have to say this was my favorite. The program itself was really hard and tiring...I woke up at 6, and went to bed at 12. This program is also different from the other two because it is ONLY for those going into their senior year, and you must submit a hs transcript, and psat/ sat/ act scores. PHENOMENAL 5 weeks.
Broadway Artists Alliance- short and sweet. It starts on a monday, and you have your final showcase that friday (At Dodger Stages!) This program is new, and very exciting. You choose a major (Voice, acting, or dance) and generally stay with those people the whole day. Maybe it was because it was the shortest of the three programs, or because the hours are 10-6, but it was the least intense. That is probably good because the age rage for BAA is much younger...the median age is about 15, and the oldest girl was 19...there was a VERY talented 10 year old there, who held her own too! For its first year, it went VERY smoothly, and was a fantastic program. Highlights were seeing All Shook Up, training at the new Alvin Ailey Studios on 55th, and having Sutton Foster come and talk to us!

I don't know how well known it is in the states, but the Stratford Festival's Musical Theatre program has got a great reputation! It's a two week program, and costs only $2700. You get to see 10 Stratford plays while you're there, too!
The whole Festival is insanely well respected. They've always been about the quality of their shows, not about the money to be made.
Just another option! (They've got a FANTASTIC Shakespeare Program as well if anyones interested...)
Broadway Bootcamp is run by Dave Barrus and Adam Hunter. And you get to audition on the 2nd day of the workshop for Alice Ripely and the Wicked casting director.
Also, if you live on the west coast, and are looking for a non competitive summer camp for a week, then Camp Bravo is the best. It's incredible. I've gone there for 2 years going on 3 and you work with Broadway directors, casting agents. playwrights and performers. You learn a lot and its so much fun!

Oklahoma City University offers one of the nation's top, pre-college musical theater programs. An intensive three week course with morning classes in music theory, meisner acting, dance, and piano. Afternoon master classes in vocal presentation and career prep. At night, rehearsals for the fully staged presentation of "Bye, Bye Birdie".
Also, OCU offers a Junior High Musical Theater which will be doing "Godspell, Jr".
The cost is extreemly lower than any other programs by a leading music university. Go on....compare!

Definately don't overlook Stagedoor Manor.
That camp was the best thing that has ever happened to me - I learned so much and the shows are very professional looking. Not to mention all the fantastic people, teachers, and directors that you meet.
Probably the best summer I've ever had.

The best musical theater intesive is Oklahoma City University. If you are serious about musical theater, then this is the program for you. And it is much cheaper than any other of the so called big names. The OCU faculty and staff are the most knowledgable around and the classes are amazing. If you can, get in!
yeah, CMU and NYU pre-college programs are definitely not camps! but i highly reccomend them both after having attended CMU and talking to people who have attended NYU
I agree 1,000% with all the postings about Oklahoma City University's SUmmer Music program. It was the single most amazing experience of my life. If you want to do musical theatre professionally or in college, then this program is a must! But realize that this is a serious program...you have to audition to get in, not just send in an application. A friend of mine wasn't accepted this year and she's great! But they also give scholarships (they have one for All State and NFAA awards). And they're doding Les miz and Pajama Game this year.
OCU is one of the nation's top programs (and cheaper than the others!!). So deff check it out for an amazing theatre experience!
