My Thoughts on the AHS: Coven Finale

I know I'm late in the game, but I've been thinking about the Coven finale for quite some time now and want to express my view:

I was entertained, but not impressed. I think the finale really fell apart and actually hurt itself in a lot of the messages the season as a whole was trying to express. I thought this season was great on the grounds of having VERY powerful and independent female characters. The finale did everythign they could to NOT let that message be taken from the season.

It seems that no matter how powerful and strong these female characters are, men will always overpower them. Fiona (this crazy powerful, beautiful, and independent women) goes to her own personal hell, which is a man beating and objectifying her). Madison is choked to death by a man, and for some reason, can't use her powers to stop him. (I mean c'mon, she can push, move, and pull people to her whim but can't push Kyle off?). Lastly, good ol' Zoe sharing that her own personal hell is a man breaking up with her over and over. (Great message.)

Also, I feel like the whole "being a witch is symbolism for being gay/you are born a witch" thing was SO out of place. I get it. It's a good message. But it should of been present the whole season. And I was kind of offended (as a gay man, myself) that this symbolic idea was paired with the fact that all witches seem to go to hell, regardless of what they do in life. Again, what kinda of message is that?

These are just a couple of my thoughts. Let me know what you think, or would like express your opinion on the matter.

Don't we all wish we felt that or felt bold enough to express it? Isn't that the American (Horror Story) Dream?

Was the "witches as gays" metaphor one that has been solidly accepted? I've read that in about four or five recaps of the last episode, but it never once occurred to me that that's what they were going for. I agree with the OP that it it's a good message, though, except when they send the the gay witches to hell.

I'd be concerned if I failed to see Ryan Murphy's subtle messages. It doesn't speak much for understanding any other messages. But I suppose as long as there's LuPone chugging bleach, all is ok.
