"This was my last issue with USPS. It couldn't decide if it liked NJ or MA more. Mind you it then went MIA and never made it to CT. Was supposed to be 2 day delivery.

Totally not surprised by this, Huss417. A lot of mail gets routed through the Kearny facility for me. My dad has had a bunch of issues with stuff sitting there for days. Apparently they have cut back on staff at some of these places. That is according to my dad's friend who works for USPS.

Goth,
Were you this pissy and upset when they broke up the phone company?

"We don't get package delivery through postal service here. We get a notice in the mail and then we go pick it up at a grocery or convenience store in a central location."
Great! Just what we want. To pick up our mail from 7-11.
What would be the problem with picking up your mail from a 7-11 if they have trained employees working there? There is a designated counter and stock area, no lines, convenient locations and extended hours. I dealt with the US postal service for 30 something years and the system here is relatively flawless in comparison. Keeping customer pick ups away from the sorting center and places where other desk services are handled lessens the foot traffic and the headaches, plus you can grab your parcels (heh) when you get your groceries. I get that anything other than what you are used to makes your head hurt, but there are many places that do things better than the good old USofA.

Wasn't that how it was often done back in the good (really old) USA? I mean I'm not personally that aged (quite), but didn't the town General Store serve as Post Office also back in the day?

There are still some around where I live, JabaraFan1. And before the Internet became a household thing, you could do JcPenney mail order through one of the pharmacies. I mean order from the catalog and pick it up there. This was in the 90s.

Like Somms, I've had no problems with them. I get the occasional envelope meant for the neighbor, but that's no big deal. Anything I send, including packages, gets where it's supposed to on time. Haven't had any issues with packages I've received. A few years back they changed their hours. Open 9:30 to 7 during the week and 8:30 to 4:30 on Saturdays. That was a godsend. The one post office in town went back to the previous hours, and the other stayed with the later ones. I'm assuming they did that based on which got the most traffic.
I've had more issues with FedEx packages I've received, than anything else.

My one beef with them, is when I'm waiting on a semi-long line and the post office workers are kibitzing with their current customer. It's nice to exchange pleasantries, but save the long convo about whatever for another time.

Posted: 6/26/15 at 8:52amI live in a small town. We have one postal clerk. He works: Monday-Friday 8:30am - 1:00pm, 2:15pm - 4:30pm and Saturday 9:00am - 12:00pm. The building itself is open 24/7 for the boxes.

They've usually been okay for me, but I've had a package (non-urgent, luckily) to be picked up for the past week. I've made three pickup requests, all gone through, all gotten confirmation numbers... and it's never been picked up. It is literally right under our mailbox, so it's not like the mail carrier could've missed it.
I even took it in one day so it wouldn't look like we were on vacation. And guess what? The day it wasn't outside, I got a confirmation that it was picked up.

Knock on wood, but for the past several years, we have had, for the most part, good experiences with our mail delivery and with package deliveries across the board (PO, FedEx, UPS). I just about have them all trained as to our preference, which is normally to have packages left at our front door. (And there's a note on the door just in case the delivery person is different than the regular ones.)
Yeah, I guess we are lucky that stuff doesn't get stolen sometimes. I think there was one time years ago that we didn't get a particular package, but I can't remember if that finally ended up being a case of it being lost, or if it was actually stolen.
Once in a blue we might accidentally get a neighbor's mail in our mailbox, or mail addressed to the same apartment # for a complex up the street, but those times are rare.
Oh, and on the "General Store" kind of thing, I do recall as recently as the late 90s, early 00s maybe, there was a locally owned drug store that had a PO counter inside. I don't mean just selling stamps like a bunch of stores do now; this was an actual PO inside the place.

Goth,
Were you this pissy and upset when they broke up the phone company?
Do you think before you post? That's the whole point. The USPS is largely a government sanctioned monopoly and can deliver whatever service they feel like with no consequences.
The phone company break up was the best thing that could ever happen because it gave people more choice, it lowered prices and opened the door for different styles of phones and different phone plans. If Ma Bell were still in charge, you wouldn't have cellphones today.

There are three streets with the same name in our zip code. At one of them a man with a name very similar to mine resides.
I'll leave it to you to imagine what problems we have.
