Robbo-I understand the point you're making with the love vs. lust issue. All I can respond with is to say that I just didn't feel it. People respond to the same stimuli in different ways. I'm sure that if I mentioned some things that really impacted me in films, you may not feel the same way. That's what makes the world go round.

RobbO thats ok, I am-was completely oblivious to the story other than what you get from the trailer. I pretty much don't want to know any details, so for me anything is a spoiler lol. Of course that idiot the other night posted about the ending so I shouldn't complain at this point. I knew that they went through a lot to be together, but I didn't want to know exactly what or how their relationship was played out. Oh well...my whiny thread No harm done deary.

Robb, in 1975 when my then partner left Germany to come back to the States (we were in the Army)......I kept an article of clothing of his for the same reason. While it wasn't as long as in Brokeback, it got me through the next year and a half.......

UNTIL I moved to San Diego to be with him only to find out he was diddling a friend of mine, and then they offered me a three-way relationship. I told them exactly what they could do with themselves, LOL

I didn't find anything more remarkable about Brokeback Mountain than any other love story.

I disagree. While the story isn't anything particularly "original", that's not what makes a movie good. For me, at least. It's the way that the story is told. This movie affected me greatly. And now, weeks after I've seen it, I'm still thinking about it.

And I thought there was a great amount of chemistry between Gyllenhaal and Ledger.

Kumbaya my friends, kumbaya.

Actually it is nice to see the tone of the thread change after an exchange of ideas.

I have not seen Brokeback Mountain yet. As for Rent, I liked it, and disliked parts of it. I do, however, think some of the scenes would be lost on the small screen. (For better or worse - Adam's full-sized face singing at the end is a little much, but La Vie Boheme on TV as opposed to the large screne definately would not be as good).

As for Brokeback, like I said, I have not seen it yet - but the fact tht it was made and released by a mainstream studio, and the usually uptight, Christian Fundamentalist reaction to two men in a physical relationship has not been able to prevent wide distribution of the movie is something to celebrate or at least acknowledge. This country is going backward in social and sexual tolerance, so the fact that two very bankable leading men are in this film says something important to me. At this point, love or lust, the movie has been made, released and seen by many in mainstream america.

I think there are so many folks here who post just to get a reaction, there is an assumption when a thread like this is started, it is for less than honest reasons. That is probably why you got some of the initial reactions you did.

But, look, an honest exchange of information, a change in tone, communication, it must be Santa! Happy Freaking Holidays.

And, I also want a copy of the Rent DVD - but only the one with the cut scenes so I can see if it would have made the movie any better!

Pappa, now don't mess with Tom, he is so frustrated he just has to be a judgmental ass in order to counteract all those denied desires. I bet in Taps he was just dying to get a piece of Tim Hutton. All dressed up in that pretty uniform. He is just misunderstood, and I am sure that he, Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell have much in common.

Again, Happy Freaking Holidays!

Broadway 86-I thought there was great chemistry between ME and Jake! just kidding. He sure is pretty though. I couldn't take my eyes off him. Anyway, I respect your opinion, which is definitely the popular one. I was disappointed that I didn't feel the same way as everyone else did about this film but I can't help the way I feel. I find I often have a dissenting opinion, but that's life.

After my dad died (unexpectently) I took his plaid shirt with me to China and wore on the Great Wall of China. He always wanted to go, but never did. I kind of felt like he to to see it that way.

My mom loves the picture of me on the great wall with his shirt and the wall and the Chinese countryside in the background.

SH*T, now I am going to get all teary about my dad and the holidays.

Someone send me a nice straight dude to help break in the new year, please please please.

Great post, youwantitwhen-and yes, I was a bit naive in thinking my honest intentions would be understood as such. I'm happy things are more simpatico now.

You made some pretty insightful remarks about Brokeback.
