So this is very off topic from Broadway stuff, but I thought I'd ask anyway. I'm in the city for just a little while, and I want to bring home some bagels for my family. We've always say that NYC has the best bagels anywhere, and we'd get them whenever we were in the city together. Does anyone know where I could find some really good NYC bagels in Times Square at night? (I know - such an odd question, and I appologize, but I'd love some opinions)
EDIT: So thanks for all of the responces, but I specifically need to find a place in Times Square. Someone said that "Times Square Bagels" is pretty good. Anyone else?

I can help you but my favorite bagels are on the Upper West Side.
It is a very quick subway ride:
Take the 1 Train in Times Square to 79th Street and walk up Broadway to H and H Bagels. They are the best in the City and the subway ride is only about 12 minutes from Times Square.
Enjoy.

Let me tell you. I *live* on the Upper West Side, yet I still go downtown to get my bagels. Ess-a-Bagel on 21st and 1st makes THE best bagels in Manhattan. No doubt, no argument. I've had H&H--it's down the street from my apartment. Yet I still go to Ess-a.

I always to go Time Square Bagle when Im in the city. Its right next to Carmines...on 44th or 45th.
Ess-a-bagel is the BEST. Yum.
I'll fourth H & H!
There is also an H&H shop closer to the Times Square area - 46th and 12th, by the Intrepid.
Love H&H! Haven't tried ess-a-bagel yet. Will have to find my way there sometime.
I'm with the Ess-a clan--there's also one on Third and 52 (or is it 51st?) but H & H are fine too....
ESS-a-Bagels are good
H & H are very good
But if you want THE best bagels in all of NYC, you need to go to Absolute Bagels on Broadway between 107 and 108. It's literally a hole in the wall, but they are the best bagels you will ever taste.
You have me curious, bwayfan3. I might just have to check them out tomorrow.
Wow, I guess I should try H & H next time Im in the city.
H & H are too chewey for me - I prefer Essa Bagel on Third avenue at 51st st. Best I've tasted in my 15 years in NYC.
While I've enjoyed both Ess-A and H&H in my day...the absolute best damn bagel I have EVER IN MY LIFE had is in a tiny little hole in the wall in Brooklyn, on 7th Avenue and 13th St in Park Slope, called "Bagel Hole".
YUM-MY.
I used to buy H&H until they went up to around $1.00 each, or maybe it's higher now. I don't think so, H&H.
The best bagels these days in my opinion, are from a bagel place on University between 9th and 10th streets. there's always a line but it goes fast and it's worth it. I think they're around $7.00/dozen. I'm picky about my bagels, and these are A+!
Then so 'tis! I would put no New Yorker's opinion above the Great New Yawker herself, Miss Jane. The second I'm off this damn Atkins crap, it's to University and 9th I go!
*adores the great Jane*
WhatsupwithyouJaily? Not that I'm not flattered, but what did I do? I'll have to do it every day!
Hon-don't you know Atkins is out these days?* Carbs are in!!! The Atkins company went bankrupt.
*only kidding-not trying to start a diet debate.
h & h -- too small, too sweet and over priced.
i'm with wanna be foster on this one -- ess-a-bagel is tops. my old boss used to ship them by the bag to jeffrey katzenberg. the shipping was more than the bagels.
The day I got my job and was flying home to pack, I told my friends that I wanted to take home some of the best bagels in NYC. After much discussion, they agreed on ess-a-bagel. My carry-on smelled of garlic and onions all the way from Tennessee. It was completely worth it.
Jane, you're talking about Bagel Bob's. I was going to recommend them as well. Also, Murray's on 13th and 6th is pretty good.
Ess-a-Bagel is unbeatable. Just ask them "What's hot?" and choose a type that has literally just come from the oven.
No need to toast. It's the most enjoyable way to load up on evil carbs.
