OK that's more than fair, and right. I jumped to the extreme--although I still personally think you could find those same similar tropes in a myriad of other past and present TV shows. (And I really don't see much similarity between Karen and Juliette. We haven't been shown, but have been told that Juliette had to fight very hard, and things were not handed to her--she implies, due to Rayna's father, Rayna's career was handed to her--and Juliette's vulnerability seems to be wanting to be loved, maybe due to her mother, something Karen doesn't suffer from either).

Im not going to keep discussing it but alot is handed to Juliet. Rayna, the veteran of the record company who kept it afloat with her album when they were struggling gets put in the back so the company can make sure the new girl on the block has the tour of all tours. One album and they are booking arenas.

I guess I missed the part where they said this was one album (though, I admit, I did get the part where they implied her rise was very quickly--just as Rayna's apparently was). I just feel the characters of Juliette and Karen are vastly different *except* that in both cases they are seen as a new, younger, threat to an established vet.

Anyway, yeah it's pointless to argue--I do see your point.

I might have misheard it, I thought Rayna said something to her "team" during the many offers of doing a tour with Juliet.

I find Smash's story hopelessly old-fashioned and outdated with Karen's plot-line. At least with Juliette it captures the current state of the country music industry with some people in the business not liking it but the public eating it up. Smash is rather quiet about the state of musicals, in fact plays with the state of musicals with a Bruno Mars revue but doesn't really come out one way or the other about it, and seems to be more behind the scenes. I also don't feel forced to root for either Rayna or Juliette like I am with Smash, I find both of their perspectives interesting and do not think either is the bad guy... yet.

That's the youtube video Anna Kendrick was apparently so obsessed with, that she watched until she learned it, and they incorporated it into Pitch Perfect.

They used a different song for Pitch Perfect, but it's practically the same. I would never get that coordination down.

That cup thing has been around for years, when I was in high school my whole lunch table of about 20 kids would do it.

I really wish I liked this show more. I thought the pilot was pretty great and I like Connie Britton a lot, but as the weeks go on, I find myself caring less and less. Except where Deacon is concerned. I could stare at Deacon for days!

I want to lick Deacon's s h i t t e r.

Well you sure are classy.

I'm still really enjoying it--but I think they need to work harder on inter-connecting the stories. Soaps never work when storylines are segregated--and things like having Juliet with a new football guy doesn't help with that.

And yes Deacon is beyond dreamy--I had a crush on him when he was on Whose Line, but I admit I never thought he'd go from this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPQdSuuKHPw to Nashville.

Nashville

I'm still enjoying it, but I agree that it feels like two separate shows, or even three if you count Deacon's niece's story. After the fun sparring of Connie and Hayden in the pilot I'm surprised they haven't put them in the same room again.
Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

From the preview for this week, it looks like that's exactly what they're gonna do--but I agree, it seemed like it took too long to get back there. Even things like having Deacon involved with Juliet seemed like a wasted opportunity, but it could just be the show trying to find its footing.
