Can I just say I love her? She's so awesome in Garden State. She needs an oscar.

I thought she was very good in "Closer", but her work in "Garden State" was so much more impressive. The character of Samantha is impossible (if played by the wrong actress, the part could have been annoying), but she made it funny, heartfelt, and warm. I would have nominated her for that movie.

did anyone see her in Ruthless?

Maybe its better if we don't mention "Star Wars"... It seems like the past two movies managed to make good actors suck.

I think she should have gotten a nomination for Garden State too.

I think that she is going to improve as an actress and get an Oscar relatively soon. I also loved "Garden State", but I dont' think she shoudl have gotten an oscar for closer.

didn't see Garden State but really liked her work in Closer (though I hated the film in general)...She's been a favorite of mine for a long time now.

"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!

I thought CLOSER was excellent, mainly due to Clive Owen (my boyfriend) and Jude Law, but it's definitely Portman's best work to date.

I love this woman, and believe that she has a huge future in Hollywood for her and can't wait to start seeing more, and to see her win some awards.

I like Natalie Portman quite a bit - she carries herself with dignity, places importance on education, and is smart in the way she handles things - aka, she's not on the cover on "Star". She seems like a very intelligent woman, which makes me respect her more.

I had little respect for her until the last year. She was great in Garden State and Closer. Even her small role in Cold Mountain was good. It makes up for the Star War movies.

I agree with the person who posted on the main board that she would make a good Shelby for Steel Magnolias.

I wonder if she is really good friends with Jude Law... I mean, they did two movies together. I've actually always wondered that, if some actors/actresses pick their movies based on who else is in them.... for example: Adam Sandler's movies always have [Rob Schneider?] in them... and Love Actually, a lot of the cast have actually starred in other movies together.

yes natalie portman is phenomenal...did you know she was born in jerusalem? i just love that.

and kangaroo--i read that adam and rob are really good friends so they always give each other cameos in their films...rob usually has really small roles in adam's movies like waterboy and the wedding singer.

Interesting...

I generally like Natalie Portman, but I thought she sucked in Closer. Her performance was not impressive, and she was indicating, and playing results. Weak acting, in my opinion. I decided not to see Garden State because I disliked her performance in Closer so much.

I don't think she's an amazing actress by any means, but there's something about her that I love. I found her work to be superior in CLOSER, but very very very VERY similar to that of GARDEN STATE. She's pretty much the same in everything, but I still enjoy her. I think I was one of the few that found CLOSER, changes from the play and all, to be amazingly well directed and quite devastating.

Munk, I think you've hit on something. The more of her work I see, the less I like her work. It's entirely possible that this is due to a lack of variation. She's interesting, which is great, and she's pretty, which is in her favor. A brilliant actress, though? Oscar-worthy? I wouldn't say so.

Atleast not of yet. She reminds me of Julia Roberts. She's not particularly good in anything, but she's never bad. She's always just kind of THERE, floating along.

Love Natalie... for her acting abilities, she also comes across so well in interviews etc. Love her.
