"Harold Scott says he was fired as superintendent of Parkview Christian Schools because he performed in a community theater production of “The Producers.”
"Scott has been an educator for 22 years and superintendent at the school started by Calvary Community Church since 2011.
"In an email response to questions Wednesday, he said he was told the reason for his termination is that Calvary's pastor, Dr. Carl Godwin, felt his participation would have a negative reflection on Calvary Community Church and Parkview Christian School."
Parkview superintendent fired for 'Producers' role, he says

Idiots. If I was a parent in Nebraska I wouldn't want these christian school dumb asses teaching my kids.
I'm sure it was the parents who ratted him out and got him fired.
My niece teaches at a Corpus Dei school. When she got married last year she planned a non-religious, outdoor ceremony at a country club. They told her that in order to keep her job she would have to have a Christian ceremony in a church. Otherwise they would not recognize her marriage and would consider that she was living in sin.
She had her planned outdoor ceremony. But gave in and had a second ceremony in church the next day just to keep her job.
Oh, in these kind of very christian schools, this is EXACTLY what the parents want.
Such a shame.
Well, it IS what Jesus would have done . . .

De Bris?
Art,
That story horrifies me. So much for living in a country where there is supposed to be 'religios freedom'.
I've really had it with organized religion.

I'm not seeing what the big deal is. The school is a private institution. Private institutions (whether religious or non-religious or anti-religious) have a right to have a code of conduct. If he violated that, they have a right to terminate his employment. Also keep in mind that the article only gives his side of the story. There might have been other issues and this was just the final straw.
This is the kind of story where if it had been reversed (Christian teacher gets fired from public school) Foxnews.com would have been all over, making a bigger deal out of it than it's worth.
Bottom line: If you don't like what the school did, don't send your kids there.
The guy was in a community theatre production of a musical.
How would that ever be against ANY code of conduct???
He did it on his own time and it had nothing to do with the school.

Coulda', Woulda', Shoulda'... No one is making this about Fox news, but you.
He may have had a contract or employment agreement containing a morals clause. If he did, he should have known that his entire life would have been subject to the scrutiny of these closed minded people.
But this is a private school, not public. They can make workers dye their hair pink and wear clown suits to keep their jobs if they want to. They don't have to answer to public rules in a private organization.
However ... I wish stricter laws would be pass to discredit religious and other cultish private schools. Students should have to have a well-rounded education in order to receive a legal diploma that is recognized by the government.
Otherwise, it really is the educational equivalent of going to clown college.
Everybody knows that theater = gay.
I really don't see how being in a community theatre production of anything would be against a morals clause to teach kids.
He's engaged in the arts. It's not like he's doing the show naked, rubbing excrement all over himself, or was arrested for indecent exposure or shoplifting.
Why do religions feel they can control everyone's life?

Nobody anywhere ever said the guy who was fired wasn't a Christian, Renart. Why do you insist on imagining a non-existent scenario to create a false equivalency?
I was almost fired, I beat them to it and quit, from a Christian school my first year teaching. I didn't attend the church that my school was attached to and that ruffled some feathers. I was still going to a Christian church, but it wasn't "the right church". I also didn't spend most of my day teaching Bible, but tried to fit the academic curriculum in and some days there weren't enough minutes in the day to get it all in. I also made the mistake of getting pregnant (even though I was married) because I had to have medical help to get pregnant. The principal (who didn't even have a teaching license) couldn't get pregnant either and had to adopt. Since I didn't do the "Christian" thing and adopt I wasn't doing things "right".
There are some amazing Christian schools out there, but sadly there are far more schools that do things like this and make Christians look bad.
Curse you, Kel, for getting pregnant while you were married!
How DARE you!
WhaT kind of example are you for the CHILDREN!!!!!
RIGHTEOUS INDIGNATION!!!
I know *hangs head in shame and hands over teaching license*. I'll go sit in the corner now.

Oh KelRel, it's so great to have you back. Sometimes a real person can be such a breath of fresh air after the fetid stale trolls pollute the place.
^^^^
Agreed!
KelRel, last time I saw you here you had just given birth to your first. Now I see that you have another tyke. Trying to sneak one over on us huh?
So nice to see you!
I must say that although I don't APPROVE of the actions of the example in the title as well as the others given here, when you work for a certain kind of school (read: Christian, fundamentalist), you are obligated to follow their rules-and since they are not public institutions, you have very little recourse. It's sad but true (and I will never, ever take a job at such a place for that reason).
Gee thanks. Its nice to feel needed.
Seriously though, that "school" made me start to question my beliefs as a Christian, but I had to take a step back and realize that my faith was in no way tied to those "people". I never felt safe to open up about my opinions on things because I know I would have been fired before I finished saying the word equality...

Intolerance – it's the "Christian" thing to do. Just what Christ wanted us to do.
If only these idiots were around when the Romans were persecuting Christians. Maybe they'll see things from the other side. Then again, I doubt they would.
