My fiance's brother is coming to town tomorrow, and we're taking him to dinner and a play. He's completely vegetarian (no meat or seafood). Can anyone recommend a good place that's vegetarian or, at least, vegetarian friendly (i.e., the kind of place that has more than one meatless entree to choose from)? Preferably UWS or Times Square/HK.
Thanks in advance!
Have you checked menupages? You can check by location and cuisine.

Highly recommend Queen of Sheba on 10th Avenue at about 46th. It's Ethiopian food, so plenty of vegetarian options.
I use MenuPages, but I was hoping that maybe some people around here knew of good places or had a personal favorite.
Calvin, I've somehow managed to never get to Queen of Sheba, even though it's on my street! Even if we don't end up there tomorrow I promise to try it soon.
And now I know that AC is a neighbor! I love HK.
There is always Zzzzzzzen palate. I enjoyed Josie's on the UWS. Surprisingly tasty 'un' fried rice that you can get meatless. It made me a fan of bok choy!
I haven't been there in a while, but it was introduced to me by vegetarian friends, so it has their stamp of approval.

It's not in the neighborhood you want, but try Soy and Sake. It's in the West Village, about 3 blocks south of the Christopher Street Station on the #1 train.

AC, it's not in your preferred neighborhoods, but I love the Indian veg. restaurant Tiffin Wallah on 28th near Lex.
I'm a veggie myself. I've enjoyed Turkish Cuisine, Lime Jungle, Vynl (of course), Yum Yums, Two Boots has a FANTASTIC vegan pizza if you need something quick.
Josie's (74th and Amsterdam) is one of my favorites. Good vegetarian options, but not all veggie, if others in your party are carnivorous. My two go-to vegan restaurants are Blossom (82nd - I think - and Columbus) and Candle Cafe (UES). I've often taken friends that aren't vegan and they've all liked the food.
We LOVE Zen Palate. The food is great and very creative. http://www.zenpalate.com/ 9th and 46th.
I love Blossom on the West Side, and I love V-Note 1st Ave b/t E79th and E 80th even more. Someone mentioned Candle 79, which is on E 79th near 3rd. Candle 79 is more of an upscale restaurant (we tend to go there for special events....birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
And if you're ever looking in midtown, we LOVED HanGawi. http://www.hangawirestaurant.com/ We celebrated there the night we got engaged. The atmosphere was lovely and the food was unique and super tasty. The Emperor's Tasting Menu was fantastic.
Thanks, all! We chose Josie's because it's close to Lincoln Center (we're seeing War Horse) and as Emcee said, it has the best of both worlds. Our guest is arriving a bit on the late side, which precludes eating outside our particular neighborhoods of choice, but if he decides to spend an extra night we might consider some of these other places. HanGawi and Soy & Sake sound amazing.
Caravan of Dreams in the East Village is amazing! Great food! I recommend their "live Spaghetti". Exceptional food at really good prices. Nice Funky "artsy" atmosphere as well.
I really miss variety in choosing restaurants. lol We mainly have pizza places, Thai food, the usual Swedish faire of meat and potatoes with a whole lot of cream sauce or Chinese, with a very limited menu. We eat out about once a month. I miss NY.

I like Blossom, Candle and Zen Palate.
However, one of my favorites for about 20 years is tucked away over on Restaurant Row, and that's the Hourglass Tavern. There's something for everyone on their menu, and everything I've had there is delicious. After years of not doing so, the finally started accepting reservations.
Hourglass
Namo, I love Hourglass Tavern. Been going there since I moved to HK two years ago. Literally steps from my apartment. Such a good find; I recommend it to everybody.
