Clearly NPH is a fool and needs to realize that he needs to check in with you before making any further foolish mistakes. Because obviously you understand his situation, the issues, and the logistics better than he does.
"Gee, another one 'comes out of the closet', again. So what else is new? Why bother making an announcement about it? Just live it (if that's what you want). But I don't want to hear about it. "
RTFan YOU MAKE ME SICK. Too bad homosexuals are going to be coming out for a long time.

I think he made the statement-- and it was important to do so-- because his representatives had denied his sexuality earlier this week.
Closeted clebrities (even lightly closeted, if that's the phrase) live in a world where interviewers don't ask about his personal life. You never read an interview or profile of a heterosexual celeb that doesn't mention that he lives "With his girlfriend of three years and their Golden Retriever Max" or his "Wife and 2 year old daughter."
Watch the next time Sean Hayes has a project to pitch, they won't ask him what it's like to be a dashing thirty-something bachelor or if he's seeing someone. When it becomes routine to include same sex partners in celebrity chat, then it won't be important to officially "Come Out".

I don’t want to burst anyone’s fantasy bubble, but the fact of the matter is that the majority of the American public neither knows nor cares what’s happening ‘on Broadway’ – in fact, there’s still a prominent feeling amongst many that any male who’s involved with theatre is gay (much to the consternation of our straight acting friends.)
We are a society dominated – DOMINATED – by television. With that in mind, increased visibility by those associated with it is a positive thing for the most part. In a relatively short period of time we have gone from having sexuality being a death knell to a career to young actors publicly admitting they are gay.
I tip my hat to the likes of Chad Allen, TR Knight and Neil. They are willing to step forward in the infancy of this new era of our interaction with the rest of the world. I wish that MANY others in their own little communities would do the same.
And by the way, having had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Harris (and knowing many in his social circle,) calling him a “man-slut” is completely off the mark, and really only reflects on those who would make such a statement.
For RTFan – you will cease to hear about it when it is no longer a basis for discrimination. Until that time, I hope everyone yells and screams about it as loudly as they can – especially in the direction of those who would want the discrimination to continue.
"(much to the consternation of our straight acting friends.)"
I heart unintentional double entendre.
Thanks DG. Very appropriate post. Neil Patrick Harris should be celebrated......not berated. But I guess that's just me.
Life is tough enough. Isn't it?
Who is Chad Allen? IMDB didn't help, there are 3.

Liver - what makes you so sure it was unintentional?
And vb - I absolutely agree that our lives have enough going on without adding to our own drama!
DG, all the posts against a celebrity coming out during duress. I wonder how everyone else would handle fame and lifestyle. Your post, as always, hits it on the head.
Thanks
I think the easiest way to explain what you're confused with, tagiunagi, is this. There's in the closet, and there's out of the closet. And yes, as far as people around NYC and wherever else knowing that NPH was gay, yes, he was... some form of out. But when the public eye gets thrown into the mix of ins and outs, there are more technicalities. So, technically, for a celebrity to "come out," he or she has to go on record and make a statement in the media about his or her sexuality. That's what NPH did. So even while he may have been pretty open about his sexuality thusfar, he wasn't technically considered to be out of the closet because he hadn't yet made that statement. Does that make sense?

To add just a little to what Em just said (which I agree with) - being 'out' socially in NYC isn't the same thing as being out nationally, especially 'on the record.'

Your opinion Becoz. Don't take it out on me that the sick world we live in that there are those who choose to live this way of life.

RT: Did Pastor Haggard "choose" to do meth and have sex with that man or was he compelled because of the way God made him?
Don't you think if it were a matter of choice, he would have chosen not to?

He's not for homosexual marriage. Their only trying to ruin him only because he's not a liberal.
i think neil is just doing it for the publicity. going all nicole ritchie takes time. going gay is just a phone call away.
It's pretty sad if you are going to say your gay for attention.

What? Neil is currently getting a lot of attention as the one redeeming factor on the sitcom he co-stars on. Hardly a situation of needing to grab attention. And he's also well-reguarded in the industry - that old situation of having gained respectability through legitimate stage work.
