I think it is unfortunate that NPH, Knight, or anyone else, are more or less "forced" to come out publicly to the media. I'm not saying "forced" as in it is something they are hiding or ashamed of, but obviously not something they felt they needed to discuss publicly, or else they would have. It is a personal issue. But instead, some tabloid gets a rumor, posts it everywhere, and the person is "forced" to either deny/accept or let the media circus roll on. I think it is awesome that they do not put up a charade and simply state the truth and move on. I guess I still don't understand (and never will) why in today's day and age, someone's sexuality and life preference is such an issue. I like/respect an actor/musician/etc. for the work they do, not if they are gay or straight. I hope that came out the way I wanted it too.
AMEN Tink
Yeah, man-slut really isn't fair, after all, we're not talking about Danny Pintauro here...just kiddin! Well, not really...I'm just as bad.
I guess my point about Neil already being out is that anyone who wanted to know could have easily found out without much searching.
But jerby has a point, coming out is an everyday process, one that makes ME pause before I say something gay to a straight guy I don't know (who isn't in theatre) because I don't know how he will react. Sad, huh?
I'm happy that T.R. and Neil are totally out. It helps to solidify in the minds of Americans that gay people are here to stay and they're not going away. However, I'm not sure I want to celebrate them coming out, personally. I think that's making too big of a deal about. I totally appreciate them doing it, though.
As far as what DG was saying about people thinking most men in the theater are gay and all that. I think, sure, that's true to a certain extent, but things are definitely changing. In my town, which is a pretty small town, an extremely popular football player who had had some problems with drugs and the law in the past, found a niche in theater and probably brought in a lot more people to see our shows then would've come without him in them. After he had done his first musical (Oklahoma), a lot of other guys who wouldn't have done plays before wanted to be in them. The guy I was talking about is majoring in theater in college right now. On a bigger scale you can look at all the big stars who have become interested in doing Broadway in the last few years and them doing that getting a lot of publicity since the media is so focused on celebrities these days. So, things change, and they'll continue to change.
Please. We knew Jonathan was gay from day 1. Doogie wasn't obvious until...
never mind.
Day 2?
Now when does Max Casella come out? Vinnie was overcompensating for something.
There was a cute male doctor? The only thing I really remember about this show was him typing in his 1980s computer diary at the end. And he could never get the damn thing right the first time. You should always go with your first thought, Doogie!
I remember "Relax, It's Just Sex." Did you know one of the guys in it was Johnny Dakota from the "no hope with dope" Saved By The Bell episode?
RobbOh, I have the movie on tape. Come over and I'll show you the...end.
and RobbOh2 will show you his end too.
Eddie Garcia.
His credits have been somewhat...limited outside of that movie, let's say.
(eta: My favorite role is "Pablo #1." How many Pablos do you need in a movie?)

Neil and his BF are so adorable, good for him!
Now, now. Brandy was 1996, at least. But I think 1992 would be correct if you averaged them all together.
RobbOh2..that was a sweet little story..now go make boobs a martini.
Mitchell's gay too, right? And if he isn't, he missed a great chance.
i hear so is his pal.
"I guess I still don't understand (and never will) why in today's day and age, someone's sexuality and life preference is such an issue."
I won't bet the farm on it but I'm pretty sure you're not out of high school AND not gay. I say this because if you were a bit older and gay, you would know that in "today's day and age" more than half of the states have no laws protecting gays against discrimination in the workforce. In today's day and age gays are still treated as second class citizens. In today's day and age gays are still beaten and killed for their sexual preference. In today's day and age we are still considered unfit to raise a family with our partners.
So you'll forgive me if I hold my Amens until a later date.
lazy..don't be so lazy...if you're gonna quote someone..use the WHOLE quote. "I like/respect an actor/musician/etc. for the work they do, not if they are gay or straight."
The point that I believe Tink was making was about being a "gay actor"..who cares if they're straight or gay..it's their craft and how good they are at it that is what really matters.

Lazy - I read it that Tink just thought it was stupid that society still cares about the issue, not that she didn't understand why he was coming out.
c'mon, whattaya expect from someone with a tom cruise av?
Papi is correct again !!!
I read it the same as you DG and boobs. And what I am saying is people still care because of all the things I listed in my previous post. The fact that on a silly, inconsequential
theatre board speculation of someone's gayness is automatic cause for deletion is proof that society cares about sexuality and sometimes places it above talent.
My objection was twofold. I think she mistates the obvious by saying that gay actors are not ashamed of or hiding their homosexuality. They are hiding it and it has to do with their livelihood. So in today's day and age people still fear losing a job because of being gay. My second objection was towards boobs and his amen to a post that clearly misses the point of the importance of gay actors coming out.
and a one word reply like Amen, is the definition of lazy.
dad! tom cruise won't come out of the closet!
