A new film series that takes place in the world of 'Harry Potter' has been announced. J.K. Rowling has announced that the Hogwarts book, 'Fantastic Beasts and where to Find Them' will be made into movies. I'm looking forward to this.

I was a bit confused when you linked to the Jurassic Park 4 article, wondering if there was some element of sarcasm that I was missing.
Here's a more direct, and less confusing link:

I saw this earlier and was going to post it, but I knew beautywickedlover would.

Man there would be some potential in a Mutual Of Omaha-style "Wild Kingdom" TV series where Newt and his assistant go in search of mythical beasts each week.
The 2 previous JURASSIC PARK sequels are two of the worst films maybe ever. I can't believe they're actually going through with a fourth one and releasing it in the same season of all those other "blokbusters" listed.
I loved Part II. III sucked as a movie, but the dinos were cool.
They've said that they're aware of the brand erosion and are really planning to knock this one out of the park. I realize they'd say that regardless, but from the leaked plot synopsis it does sound pretty amazing.

I liked Part II more than I did part 1. Up until the point where the dinosaurs ended up in San Diego. That last part of the film is my least favorite in the entire series.

Sorry about the wrong link everyone. I was not paying attention to what I was doing and was in a hurry. I hope that they get the directors of 'Prisoner of Azkaban' and films 5-8 for these Rowling films.

I guess I'm in the minority about Part 2, then. But I really bought it was awful (Bot nearly as awful as Part 3, though).
Hopefully for this new installment they'll bring back as many cast members from the original film as possible.

A spoonful of royalties helps your artistic integrity go down.
I'm sure Warner Bros. will take any Pottery paragraphs she writes and break them apart into six 3D movies.
It's squeezing the very last bit of toothpaste out of the tube. It's a little like George Lucas trying to turn the Ewoks into a franchise on their own. Greed versus inspiration almost never works.
I also thought the JP sequels sucked.

Thank you Best12bars and Jordan, for making me almost spit OJ all over my desk at work. :)

That's what they said about Man of Steel, only they didn't knock it out of the park, they beat us over the head with it till there was nothing left but a bloody pulp.

I read the novel for The Lost World when it was published and was so annoyed by how Crichton retconned Malcolm to have survived the first book that I never bothered with the movie. It also didn't help that I had recently re-read Misery not too long before that, so I definitely felt that the novel was a cheat.
As for this proposed Fantastic Beasts, I'm not so sure how I really feel about it. I'm just assuming it will be a bloated, CGI crap-fest, at least from a visual standpoint.
I hope Zack Snyder directs these new Potter World films.

The spin-off has just been confirmed to be a trilogy. I like this idea because I don't know if there really needs to be eight films like before.

If they get Cuaron, Newell, or Yates to direct the films, I have fairly high hopes. (I also feel like Guillermo del Toro would be able to strike the right tone.)

Looks like I'll be saving a lot of time and money at the movies.

While it is set at a different time than the Potter films, these share the same universe. I'm sure WB will not turn this into a CGI crapfest. They used many practical effects for the Potter films and they will likely exercise the same care into these movies, especially with the financial stakes resting on them. Likewise, since JK herself is writing these, the stories should be interesting enough to be filmed.

They did use a good number of practical effects, but the first films also introduced one or two new magical creatures, they weren't centered around a magizoologist dedicated to finding and cataloging all of the magical creatures in existence.
The fact that it's now being planned as a trilogy just adds to the cash-grab aspect from WB. Rowling may have signed on in an effort to protect some of the integrity of it all, but we've also seen what happens when the creators of an original series begin to revisit those worlds after some time has passed (we're looking at you, Mr. Lucas). She's already gone on record saying that she was initially wrong and now feels that Harry and Hermione should have ended up together. Who knows what else she may feel was wrong about the world she created that she may now attempt to "fix"?

I loved the job Cuaron did with 'Prisoner of Azkaban' and he said he hoped to direct another film in the series, but he couldn't. Now, he might have the opportunity after all.

Now that Cuaron is out, it looks like David Yates will be returning to the world of 'Harry Potter'.
