New App Will Help You Read An Entire Novel In 90 Minutes

I enjoy reading at a leisurely pace. One of the main reasons I read is to immerse myself in another world and escape for a while. I also like stopping here and there throughout the process to contemplate things. So I'm not sure I would find this enjoyable. But then again I also thought I would hate giving up real books for a Kindle. Now I have three Kindles and never miss holding a real book. So time marches on and I'll be open to it. I believe in evolution.
Art has a double face, of expression and illusion.

Agree, Taz.

I don't use them at home. I still prefer to hold a real book.
But, for travelling, they have been such an improvement in my life.

Having seen some of those demos I have to say I kinda like this.

But again, it depends on what you're reading and what you want to get out of your reading experience.

Words flying by that fast makes my pulse increase. It definitely is not relaxing in any way.

As others have said, I could see this being a decent short cut for reading school text books, etc at least in the case of something that you have to read just to get the gist of it. I can't imagine reading a novel this way. I read pretty quickly as it is, and it doesn't seem like there would be any bonus to scheming through one any quicker (unless I suppose you forgot to read a novel for a school type situation and need to get a basic plot synopsis.)

Of two minds (what else is new?).

I have no interest in trading in the dozens of bewitching hours it takes me to read Catch 22 or Death Comes for the Archbishop to a disappointingly scant 90 min. I'm more of a "slow food" reader and I like it that way. What's next? Listen to Don Giovanni in an hour?

But, I fully admit I suffer from orbital distraction while reading and always have. So I'm very interested in this app, not to minimize the time I enjoy reading (why would I?) but to cut down on those many moments in reading where I lose the flow of a sentence. I wonder if this app might be the key to my finally being able to enjoy Proust (although I doubt it).

And I think this app might help a lot of people who need to speed up their reading either for work or in school. Just not sure that this app's marketing should promise or encourage 90 min. novel reading; sends a weird message.

How can you really tell what is good writing and what is bad writing if it's going so fast? Like this, Proust would be an equal to Stephanie Meyer.

I mean, I know the novel is dead and all, but do we really have to tapdance on its grave?
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

This new app reminds me of a joke that a comedian told on TV in the 1960's. It went something like, "I took one of those new speed-reading courses and finished 'War and Peace' in an hour. It was about Russia."
Audrey, the Phantom Phanatic, who nonetheless would rather be Jean Valjean, who knew how to make lemonade out of lemons.
