oooh...I can't wait for this one. I just watched the Ed Wood dvd this weekend so it has me in the mood for a new Burton movie. Plus..I really liked Big Fish.
As for the teaser poster..looks great..except for the face make up. Somewhere online (I think it's aintitcoolnews.com) they have pictures of the chocolate factory.

I think Burton is exceptionally well-suited to adapt Roald Dahl's quirky, dark writing style, so I'm not going to judge the movie by that godawful poster.

But really, man...ew.

Might I suggest not becoming nervous about a movie b/c of its *poster*. Its a poster... meant to catch attention, which I think it does well.

Not a fan of the hair, but that's certainly not enough to pass judgement.

Edit: I am lovin the shoes, though!

Those are perfect lips... I wish mine looked like that.

Wait a minute...oh no! I think Willy Wonka is now prettier than me! It's NOT FAIR! ::runs away crying::

Seriously, maybe they will realize how feminine he looks on this and mess with it some.

i like the poster and i think the movie will be great. tim burton is going to make a darker effect to the movie that's going to keep it pretty different from the one from the 70's.

Haven't read the book, but the movie was already pretty dark--i was 8 when i saw it and Gene Wilder was creepy. It scared the bejeezus outta me. Then there was The Poseidon Adventure and THEN The Exorcist. Why did my mother let my older brother take me to them?

Willy Wonka never struck me as a creepy guy in the book, and creepy isn't what I meant by dark- I mean dark as in really bad things happen, especially for a children's book. I think this is more evident in The Witches or The BFG, which freaked me out as a kid. Charlie's overwhelming poverty and the nasty behavior of the other kids are the darkest parts of Charlie an Chocolate Factory, as far as I remember. Maybe they were going for some kind of whimsical look with that poster, I dunno.

That poster made me think of Bram Stoker's Dracula. Creepy to the ith degree! The Witches gave me nightmares for weeks. The only time I was able to look at Angelica Houston again was in the Adams Family, oddly enough. I still get antsy when it's on. Never say the little things that happen to you as a child dont have a lasting effect.

That poster catches your eye, that's for damn sure.

That hair and hat remind me of A Clockwork Orange.

Oh, and the poster is great.

Wonka is described int he book as being a little elfish fellow with a pointy Van Dyke beard.

I'm going to expect the same performance from Depp that he gave in Pirates of the Caribbean. Over-the-top and overrated.

VIETgrl, I completely agree. I think he's a very talented actor, but almost disasterous in POTC.

I thought he was excellent in POTC. I'm excited for the movie, but I agree with most here: the hair is horrendus.

I think it's wonderfully creepy. You can't even see the hair, you see the sides of what looks like a mostly computer generated picture. The creepier Wonka is, the more effective. It would be awesome if he was like the guy in "Something Wicked This Way Comes"
