Have you guys seen the new GAP ad yet? With Audrey Hepburn dancing about to "Back in Black?" It's pretty freakin' AWESOME, so I just had to start a thread about it.
The footage is from "Funny Face." It rules. =)

Posted: 9/7/06 at 11:50pmI love it! Reading the comments below it, some people seem pretty P. O.'d. But I think it's really clever, and probably a great advertising strategy.

It's to promote skinny black pants. Makes sense. :-P Apparently, tonight was the "premiere" of the ad.

People are always PO'd when they use footage of a dead celebrity. (Remember the broo-ha-ha over the Fred Astaire Dirt Devil commercial?) But this ad is really charming, don't you agree? And obviously her estate had to approve the use of her likeness, so there ya go.

My first instinct when I saw it was to run over here and post a thread, but I was too lazy to get up.
I like it. I think it's cute and a very clever idea.
Although I'm not a big fan of the skinny cut that is coming back this fall. It looks sooooo unflattering on anyone who doesn't have completely twiggy legs.

I haven't seen the ad yet, but have seen the window posters in GAPs. Nice.
I agree about the fashion though. Nuh-uh.

Posted: 9/8/06 at 10:12amIt's not that bad, actually. I have "womanly" legs and my pair of skinny jeans actually look great. I just bought a size larger than what I would normally wear.

I'm just saying no to the skinny jeans too. My legs are looking pretty damn good these days, but I'm short. Bootcut is most flattering on me, no matter what the current trend.

The video is on youtube for anyone who wants to see it.
The skinny jeans are better than the spandex under the mini skirt look...ugh...

The leggings-under-skirt look as well as the skinny jeans are pure '80s flashbacks.
Ugly then, ugly now.

*hangs her head* I also wear leggings. Alhtough under knee lengths skirts, not mini. My thighs and ass are way too big for a mini skirt.
I do promise to not give in when stirrup pants come back. And I will NEVER wear my leggings as pants with a long shirt.

Isn't there an unwritten rule that if you wore it the first time it was fashionable that you're too old to wear it now? That's what I'm telling myself anyway.
And if I start to see acid washed, high-waisted jeans with six pleats on each side of the zipper, I may have move into a cave until the trend passes...
That being said -- it's a great spot.

I wore them too. In the '80s. Before we knew better.

I like the longer shirts and sweaters that are "in" right now. SO much better than the belly shirts from a few years ago!
PS Sorry for threadjacking!

In the 80s, I was wearing a lot of rompers and OshKosh B'Gosh.
Think that look will come back?

It's your mission to rekindle that trend, Kitz.
I still think that the 80s are the most embarrassing era in our fashion history, and the fact that we are even remotely moving back in that direction is just mind-boggling to me. Learn from your mistakes people!!

Kitz, I work with a woman who still wears leggings as pants with tshirts and long shirts. Of course, she is l.a.r.g.e
Did I mention her Lucille Ball orange spike hair?

I have to agree: 80's fashion ‡ attractive. At least, that's true of 90% of it...
But back to Audrey...anyone else seen the ad yet? I'd forgotten how absolutely teeny-tiny she was.

I thought the ad was so charming. I really enjoyed it. I absolutely adore Audrey - and I love the skinny black pants (which are not 80s style!).
Speaking of the 80s, it pains me to see leggings coming back. Not that they don't look cute (they do) but I wore them in high school the first time they were popular - including the ones with the little lace trim on the bottom (Yikes!). I think I may be too old to revisit a trend from high school! Am I aging myself? I think so. Egad.
