i figured you'd at least moon him.
oh and since fema was rolled into the dhs its duties and misssion were split into the emergency preparedness and response directorate (ep&r) and the office of state and local government coordination and preparedness and together they received a total of $8.646 billion in the fy 2005 bduget which is up from when bush doubled funding for fema in 2002 from $3.3 billion to $6.6 billion. some little part, huh?
well, if that's how ya see it, pj, i guess that makes me the dog and you the fire hydrant. so how's the weather down there?
One thread and so many posts to comment on.
First ZZanahk - the only "effing stupid" thing around here is you for that totally inane comment.
Second Pal Joey , I love your posts but your hositility to Papa is a little off. You have different points of view, good, but most everything Papa writes is well thought out and worth reading, even if you don't agree with it.
ljay - if you don't like the political threads, don't read them.
And finally, to get back to the original post, I find it baffling that W has continued to his vacation despite this emergency. If only for appearance, his place is in Washington.

What I find incredible (not really) is that he is out there hawking his social security charade.

God knows he cut one of his vacations short, and hot-footed back to Washington to save Terri.
It was initailly reported this morning the presidentr was flying to Washington to coordinate flood-relief efforts. Now they say he's flying back to Crawford for the night. Pathetic.
What would Giuiliani do? What would Clinton do? What would Chruchill do? Is it too much to expect a leader to lead?
edit:
he's going back tomorrow morning as was initially reported. an early story from 9:24am.
bush cuts short vacation
Here's what Bush was doing today:

Just a question.. what does the President have to do with a hurricane? I don't think he has the power to stop it or anything.
it has just been reported that president bush has today presented through white house council to the t.v. funhouse grand council and the ayatollah ali robert smigel a petition for special dispensation for early and limited use of his "ex presidents" powers so that he might fly single handedly into the katrina devastated areas, pluck survivors from rooftops, spin up generators without fuel, purify the waters, re-build the levees, and use his power of high velocity farts to clear the streets of water. sources close to the ayatollah say that he's currently sent the matter to his advisors, "the amiguously gay duo" and awaits their report before rendering a final decision on whether to let dubya use his powers to single handedly solve the crisis of katrina. a sticking point seems to be the funhouse council's worry that once granted his powers that dubya would reticent to go back to an ordinary presidency. sources close to the white house claim that dubya has offered the twins as collateral for the powers. an earlier deal that included grammy babs was quashed by current "ex president #41." we hope to be able to bring you news of this story which obviously has conseqquences not only for storm ravaged areas, but for the world.
i demand that you people stop changing my subject line! i mean it!

Yeah, just like he created the wheel?
what does the President have to do with a hurricane?
In terms of being a leader he has a lot to do with the aftermath. Quite frankly that picture of him playing around with a guitar today of all days brings to mind Nero fiddling while Rome burned. The man has no feelings.

Thank you, PJ for writing what I was thinking. But hasn't everyone noticed -- he's on the Basic Tsunami Schedule. See if you can get away with a few words for the first 24 hours, then stick your wet finger into the (high)winds, and determine that it's politically expedient to do more. Frankly, I don't think he's fond of New Orleans, as most dry drunks are not. What would he do there, for fun?
Exactly.
I simply asked: What would Giuiliani do? What would Clinton do? What would Chruchill do? Is it too much to expect a leader to lead?
i dunno that he has no feelings. granted a guitar photo op is probably not the way to go, but while this is a catastrophic tragedy, there are systems in place that automatically go into effect in the event of such a tragedy. dubya's style has always been that of a manager who sets a direction and allows those people he's chosen to fulfill that agenda to do so. he's never been a micromanager (yes, i know there are instances which refute that but they are the exception rather than the rule). in the initial stages of a tragedy like this, the people on the scene are getting an idea of what is necessary and i'd like to think that the president has the sense to stay out of their way initially and allow them to get a sense of what's needed. then once that's been established, he can help facilitate those actions. in the meantime, get on with the things at hand and don't leap into a situation taking focus from the people who are really doing the necessary work. at least in the time that i've been watching him, that's the sense thaat i have gotten of his governing style.
i'm betting we disagree about this though.
I don't care if he manages things directly or not, but when part of this country is suffering it is callous, to say the least, to have a photo op of himself having a "good ole time". I can't think of another politician that would be so stupid and insensitive.

i suppose that following his remarks at the naval base he could have refused to accept the guitar which was presented to him as a gift, or avoided being seen with the singer...
anyone can play guitar
Or maybe he could have headed back to Washington as soon as he learned that a major hurricane was going to hit the US.

I was hanging around the Republican Club today and I overheard some top secret info. It seems that Karl Rove planned this hurricane to get back at New Orleans for voting for Kerry. He calls it Mission KKK: Kerry Katrina Kaput.
Of course yesterday he was busy - playing golf.

omg! my poor subject line!
Even Trent Lott is begging the prsident to show some compassion, urging Bush to visit Mississippi: "The people of Mississippi are flat on their backs. They're going to need your help."
What did the president do today? He played golf in San Diego.
Updates as they come in on Katrina
But wait! I think ol George is finally telling the truth:

Bush Compares Iraq War to WW II
President Marks 60th Anniversary of Earlier Conflict
By JENNIFER LOVEN, AP
CORONADO, Calif. (Aug. 30) - President Bush on Tuesday answered growing anti-war protests with a fresh reason for American troops to continue fighting in Iraq: protection of the country's vast oil fields that he said would otherwise fall under the control of terrorist extremists.
So, it IS about the oil. prick.
