Uh oh, I am shamelessly bumping myself
Just got in from the most wonderful day. Well, I started with a movie. I opted for Constantine at the Ziegfeld. Thank GOD I saw it there as the hideousness of the movie was masked by the gorgeousness of my surroundings. What a beautiful auditorium. What a pile of s**t that movie was.
Then it was dinner with the one, the only BroadwayBoobs. What an awesome guy he is. He took me to Luxia (of course) and the martinis, the food, the company, all absolutely delightful. As an unexpected treat, Josh Lucas and Salma Hayek came and sat at the table right next to us. I have been in love with him since You Can Count On Me and it took a supreme effort to not freak out and climb on the table and proclaim my undying love for him. But I managed

.
After that, it was on to the main reason my trip was timed the way it was. Yes, it was for my 30th birthday, BUT that's not until next week. However, tonight in the Allen Room as part of American Songbook, Dar Williams was performing. First of all, I want to take a moment to talk about the Allen Room itself. Is there a more beautiful venue in NYC? That view, those acoustics, my GOD! Gorgeous. And then there's Dar. Alone and acoustic, she performed:
The Babysitter's Here
Spring Street
The Beauty Of The Rain
Teen For God (brand new song)
Are You Out There
The One Who Knows
Close To My Heart (brand new song)
The Ocean
It Happens Every Day
I Had No Right

When I Was A Boy

We Learned The Sea
She is without doubt the best live performer I have ever seen. There's something about her that's so honest, so heartfelt, so genuine. Her between song banter is uproarious and also really warm and sweet. She's just incredible. If anyone here likes folky type music, then download (legally, with iTunes or something) any one of the songs from this set list. And if you like that, then go and buy everything she's ever released, you won't be sorry. Tonight she made me laugh a LOT, on more than one occasion she took my breath away and with When I Was A Boy, she moved me to tears. It was everything I wanted it to be and more besides.
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.
