Hey Gang --
As a long time traveler back and forth between NYC and LA - I'm rather embarresed to say I've never flown into Newark airport before! But this weekend will change that - my question is - what is the best way to get into the city from Newark on a flight arriving late night (midnight). Are the trains still running or am I going to need to cab it...

Posted: 12/28/07 at 3:29pmHere's what I do, MIchael. There's a bus which takes people from Newark airport straight to Port Authority and also to Grand Central Station. It's $14 one way. When you come out of the baggage claim area, go straight across all the lanes of traffic to the last lane. You'll see a sign saying Shuttle bus to NYC. If you don't see it, I'm sure if you ask anyone there they'll direct you. They run all the time.

I'm facing a similar situation. I'm going in February, flying into Newark for the first time as well. I get there at 5pm, what is the cheapest way to get into the city? I assume the most practical is the shuttle, but I think I prefer cheaper over practical.
Also, my flight leaves at 7am, what's the best way to get back to Newark from the city at 5am or so? Is it safe? Should I just head to the airport the night before?
I probably shoulda figured all this out before booking my flight but it was too cheap to miss. Thanks MichaelBennett for posting this thread.

The 12:41 train (along the NJ Coast Line) will get you in to Penn at 1:13.
So freaking easy, that train is.

Oh, I should have mentioned the name of the bus I take is Coach USA.
Ray -you can take that same shuttle bus from Port Authority to Newark. It's under the Port Authority bus terminal. Every half hour.

Son-$3? Is that true? I was under the impression that you need to buy a special ticket at Penn Station to get off at the airport. I think the person told me it was around $11.
I hope you're right because if it's only $3, that's how I'll go from now on!

Posted: 12/28/07 at 3:57pmJust for the record, I took out my NJ Transit schedule. On it it says that the fare to the airport is based on how far you travel. Also, when you try to get on the AirTrain (which takes you to your terminal), you swipe your train ticket. Without a magnetized train ticket, the AirTrain is $5.50 except for children 12 and under. I'll try to find out more about the fares.

Posted: 12/28/07 at 4:00pmLast time I checked, it's about 11 or 12 dollars to go from Newark Airport to Penn Station NYC on NJTransit. That's one way...and no roundtrips are offered.

Hi guys - thought I'd bump this thread.
I am heading out to Vegas at the end of December, and am looking for a one way flight from EWR/LGA/JFK to Vegas (I already booked my flight home - not the smartest thing, but it was a cheap deal).
Anyways...
The cheap deal out to Vegas leaves from Newark about 2:45 pm. I can try my best to be in the city by 9 am, because I am coming from CT. My concern is once I get there, I need a quick way to get to the airport. My main worry is that it is a busy time (I am flying out December 26th), so I need a quick way to get to Newark. I am concerned about taking the PATH train/NJ Transit system because I have a feeling I'll be on a time constraint and easily get confused by the route. I read about the Super Shuttle service, and am wondering if anyone has ever had any time issues with that. Also, Liberty Coach - does it leave from Penn Station? I couldn't find on the website where it leaves from.
I am thinking about taking an Amtrak train to Newark and be done with it.
EDIT: Time on flight.

Posted: 11/8/08 at 9:09amThe NJ Transit route is pretty easy. Take any NJ Transit train out of Penn Station that goes to Newark Airport (listed as 'EWR'), then take the Air Train to the terminals. I believe the bus runs from Port Authority Bus Terminal at 41st & 8th.
